Left Endoscopic Tumour Resection / Endoscopic Medial Maxillectomy on a patient with a Left Sinonasal Inverted Papilloma.

1st video: Intra-operatively, before the start of the procedure.
2nd video: Nasal endoscopy at the outpatient setting, 5 months post-op. Patient is completely asymptomatic and tumour free (a clinically insignificant anterior nasal adhesion can be seen at the start of the video).

Inverted Papillomas are benign however locally aggressive tumours that arise in the nose / sinuses. They tend to grow and erode adjacent structures; although they are not cancerous, in some 5-10% of cases they can harbour a form of cancer called squamous cell carcinoma.

They usually present with unilateral sinonasal symptoms such as unilateral nasal obstruction, nosebleeds, facial pain, sinus infections.

Treatment consists of complete Endoscopic Tumour Excision and close follow-ups post-op.

Frontal Sinus Balloon Sinuplasty is the balloon dilatation of the frontal sinus drainage pathway.
Through this minimally invasive procedure the surgeon can address frontal sinus pathology efficiently and safely.

In experienced hands, Balloon Sinuplasty:
- Minimizes operating time
- Makes the operation less invasive
- Minimizes the risk of intra-operative complications
- Minimizes the chances of disease recurrence as it decreases the risk of a post-operative stenosis of the frontal sinus opening.

Frontal Sinus Balloon Sinuplasty can be used for:
- Frontal Sinus Rhinosinusitis / Nasal Polyps
- Frontal Sinus Barotrauma - pain at the forehead area during airplane take off or landing or during diving
- Drainage of a Frontal Sinus Acute Infection or Abscess
- Endoscopic Biopsy of Sinonasal Tumours

Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures with Minimal Blood Loss:

“Coblation” Plasma Technology - is a minimally invasive, low thermal technique which is utilised for the effective and precise dissection of tissue removal.

Whilst most radiofrequency-based surgical products, such as lasers and electrosurgical devices, use imprecise heat-driven processes to remove or cut tissue, Coblation Plasma Technology creates a controlled, stable plasma field with thickness of only 100μm-200μm around the active electrode, allowing for the precise removal of tissue at a relatively low temperature, resulting in minimal thermal damage to surrounding soft tissues and to the patient.

This leads to a safer and an effectively bloodless surgical procedure, which is significantly important especially in children.
The recovery of the patient post-operatively is quicker, with the patient going home on the same day of the operation.

Coblation Plasma Technology is been used by Dr. Ellinas in a variety of surgical procedures, such as:
- Tonsillectomy
- Adenoidectomy
- Snoring Procedures - Tongue Base Reduction, Soft Palate / Uvula Reduction
- Turbinectomy
- Excision / Debulking of Upper Airway Tumours (Larynx, Hypopharynx and Oropharynx)
- Transnasal Endoscopic Tumour Resections
