When do we recommend a classic breast augmentation instead of MIA or Preservé techniques?
The decision is based primarily on each patient’s individual anatomy. Key factors include the breast base and the thickness of the soft tissue in the upper pole of the breast, which determine whether there is sufficient coverage for an implant placed above the muscle.
A thorough assessment is essential. This includes evaluating skin quality, the presence of ptosis, stretch marks and overall tissue characteristics. In cases where tissue coverage is limited, or anatomical conditions are not ideal for minimally invasive approaches, a more traditional technique may be indicated. The dual plane method is often recommended in such cases, as it allows partial placement of the implant under the muscle while maintaining a more natural contour in the lower pole.
In some patients, adjunctive procedures such as fat transfer or a minor lift may be required to optimize the final result.
Treatment planning is always individualized, ensuring that the selected technique aligns with the patient’s anatomy and aesthetic goals!
