Flying During Pregnancy

Flying is generally safe during pregnancy and doesn't harm you or your baby. However, it’s important to discuss any health concerns or complications with your midwife or doctor before traveling.

Key Considerations

Timing Matters:

After 37 weeks (or 32 weeks with twins), the chance of going into labour increases.

Some airlines may restrict travel later in pregnancy, so check their policies.

Documentation:

From 26 weeks onward, airlines may require a doctor or midwife's letter confirming your due date and that there are no complications.

Long-Distance Travel Risks

Flights over 4 hours increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT). For long-haul flights, it is preferable to have a complete maternal-fetal risk assessment by an obstetrician.
