Smoking is a very strong risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
Smokers are up to 4 times more likley to develop coronary disease or stroke and even up to 5 ci******es per day substantially increases the risk compared to non-smoker.
Quitting smoking reduces the risk of heart disease by 50% within the first year and after 10-15 years the risk approaches that of never-smokers.
