Messy play doesn’t mean just getting dirty. 🌸

One of the biggest misconceptions is that messy play is chaos for the sake of mess.
In reality, it’s purposeful, guided, and deeply therapeutic.

Messy play is about:
• exploring textures, pressure, temperature & resistance
• building sensory tolerance at a child’s own pace
• strengthening fine motor skills, hand control & bilateral coordination
• supporting emotional expression, creativity & regulation
• learning that new sensations can feel safe and manageable

Sometimes it looks messy.
Sometimes it looks calm, focused, and intentional — like this flower creation we made the other day 🌷
Same principles. Same benefits. Different form.

Messy play is not about forcing children to tolerate discomfort.
It’s about meeting them where they are and gently expanding their sensory world through play.

Because when children feel safe in their bodies, learning follows ✨

It looks like a simple puzzle…
but inside this moment, a child is thinking, trying, failing, adjusting, and trying again.

Every twist builds focus.
Every pause builds problem-solving.
Every grip builds the strength needed for writing, dressing, and independence at school.

This is how learning happens —
quietly, through the hands.

✨ Play with purpose.

Why do we love foam play in OT?

For children with sensory sensitivities, touch can feel overwhelming. Foam offers a soft, predictable texture that allows exploration at their own pace — with control and safety.

When sensory sensitivities are supported, children often improve in:
🖐 tolerance to textures
🧠 regulation & calm
🧥 self-care skills like washing hands and dressing

It’s not about getting messy —
it’s about helping the nervous system feel safe enough to explore.

WFOT Congress in 🇹🇭✨

Super excited to have had our e-poster featured 🙏🏻👏🏻

Connecting with occupational therapists from across the globe — clinicians, researchers, educators — was more than networking. It was a reminder that our profession is constantly evolving, expanding, and re-imagining what participation truly means for the people and communities we serve.

The conversations sparked ideas. The ideas sparked collaborations. And the collaborations? They opened doors I didn’t even know were there. 🚪✨

From research possibilities to cross-country partnerships, this experience stretched my thinking beyond borders, and that’s the magic of global congresses. You go to share your work… and you leave with a bigger vision.

So who knows what the future holds? Maybe new studies. Maybe international projects. Maybe something completely unexpected.

But one thing is certain, when passion meets opportunity, growth is inevitable. 💫

Inspiring change, innovating futures!🥹✨

Grateful. Inspired. And already dreaming bigger.

👄✏️ When children need to put things in their mouth

For some children, mouthing objects is not a habit to stop —
it’s a sensory need to understand and regulate their body.

Providing safe oral sensory input in the classroom can:
• help meet sensory needs in an appropriate way
• support attention and concentration 🧠
• reduce chewing on unsafe objects
• improve engagement in table-top tasks

When the nervous system feels organised, the brain is more available for learning.

Supporting sensory needs doesn’t distract from learning.
It supports it 🤍

Save this for classrooms and parents who want to understand the why behind the behaviour.

Learning at 1 year old doesn’t look like worksheets or structured tasks 🤍

It happens through play, repetition, connection and everyday moments.

From sounds around the house 🔔
to simple emotions 😊😴
first opposites ⬆️⬇️
movement and sensory play 🤲
and little helper moments 🧹

These early concepts support:
• language development
• problem solving
• emotional awareness
• movement and coordination
• independence

And the best part?
You’re already doing most of this — just by being present.

📌 Save this post for simple ideas you can use every day
✨ Learning grows through shared moments, not pressure

Your child’s swimsuit colour matters more than you think 👀💦

In water, not all colours are equally visible.
Some shades blend into the pool or sea within seconds, especially with movement, splashing, shadows or low light.

Bright, high-contrast colours (like neon pink, orange, yellow or bright green) remain visible for longer — making it easier for parents, lifeguards and adults to spot a child quickly.

So what does this mean in real life?
A child who is tired, underwater, or not moving much can become harder to see if their swimsuit blends into the background. Visibility buys time — and time matters.

This isn’t about fear.
It’s about informed choices, added safety and peace of mind.

Save this for your upcoming summer purchases 🤍.

LEGO play on a vibration board 🧩✨

While it may look like simple play, this activity supports so many important skills at the same time.
The vibration gives the body extra sensory input, which can help children feel more grounded, organised and focused.

As children build with LEGO, they strengthen their fingers and hands, improve coordination between both sides of the body, and practice planning what comes next. Giving the body sensory input while the hands are working often makes it easier for children to stay calm, engaged and confident in what they’re doing 🤍

At Occupational Therapy, we use play like this to support regulation, concentration and everyday skills — because learning happens best through meaningful, joyful play.
