Milia are tiny white or yellowish bumps that usually appear on the skin, especially on the face. They’re very common and harmless.
⠀
What are milia?
⠀
Milia are small cysts filled with keratin (a protein found in skin). They form when dead skin cells get trapped under the surface instead of shedding naturally.
⠀
Where do they appear?
• Around the eyes
• On the cheeks
• On the nose
• On the forehead
⠀
What causes them?
• Dead skin buildup
• Heavy creams or oil-based products
• Sun damage
• Skin injuries (burns, blisters, rashes)
⠀
Can you remove them?
• They often go away on their own (especially in babies).
• Gentle exfoliation can help prevent new ones.
• A cosmetologist can safely extract them if needed.
• Don’t squeeze them — they don’t pop like pimples and squeezing can cause scarring.
