Physiotherapy students from the University of Nicosia recently completed part of their Clinical Practice at our hospital, focusing on the rehabilitation of respiratory patients.

Under the guidance of their Clinical Physiotherapy Trainer - Ms Elena Papamichael, the students observed and discussed each patient case in detail, reviewing the therapeutic approaches applied, evaluating outcomes, and developing improvement plans for future sessions.

This hands-on learning experience as part of the University’s exchange student programme, offering valuable practical exposure within a real clinical environment.

Exchanging knowledge and practising real cases with real patients, ensures the quality and readiness of the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Keeping safety within our hospital is an important part of our daily routine.
As part of this commitment, we held an essential training session on fire extinguishers.

During the session, we learned about the different types of fire extinguishers and their appropriate use for various causes of fire. We also received instruction on the correct operational techniques and reviewed the locations of fire extinguishers throughout the hospital, ensuring that each one is clearly visible, easily accessible, and properly positioned.

At PMC, the safety of our patients and staff remains an absolute priority. Through regular and practical fire safety training, we ensure that our personnel are fully equipped with the knowledge and preparedness required, to respond effectively and responsibly in the event of a fire emergency.

We extend our thanks to Fire Formula Ltd and Mr. Costas Theodorou for providing this important training session.

World Patient Safety Day aims to raise global awareness and mobilize action by governments, health institutions, care-workers, patients and communities to reduce avoidable harm in health care.

Hospitals around the world keep patients safe by Checklists & protocols, Infection prevention, Medication safety, Incident reporting, Staff training and more. In Cyprus, hospitals also:
-Run infection control programs in ICUs
-Train staff on hand hygiene guidelines
-Assess safety culture among healthcare teams
-Adapt international guidelines (e.g. NICE) to the local context

At Platonas Medical Center (PMC), we reaffirm our commitment: every procedure, every interaction, every moment in our hospital will strive for safety, dignity and respect.

Today, our hospital joins the global community in recognising World Physiotherapy Day—a day dedicated to honouring the vital role physiotherapists play in promoting mobility, independence, and well-being.

Physiotherapy reduces pain, restores movement, improves balance and strength, and helps patients regain their independence.

At PMC, our physiotherapy team supports patients every day with expertise and dedication.

On World Physiotherapy Day, we acknowledge the important contribution of our physiotherapy team at PMC.

𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗔𝗹𝘇𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵

Every September, the global community unites to raise awareness and challenge stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s and dementia. This year’s theme, 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗹𝗹, highlights the importance of 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲—principles we stand by at Platonas Medical Center (PMC).

Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia, affecting over 55 million people worldwide, with numbers expected to almost triple by 2050. Early signs include memory lapses, disorientation, or difficulty with familiar tasks.

While there’s no cure yet, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝘀—𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲, 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀—𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸. Early diagnosis matters.

Every day before the first scheduled surgeries begin, the OR nursing staff meet to review the surgical list and ensure full preparedness. During these briefings, responsibilities are clearly allocated, with each nurse assigned to a specific operating theatre and role - whether as scrub nurse, circulating nurse or recovery support.

In these meetings, the team carefully reviews the day’s surgical procedures, confirming essential details such as the instruments, surgical sets and sterile equipment required for each case, the specific needs of each surgical specialty, the estimated duration and complexity of each procedure, and infection prevention protocols.

This structured coordination process is critical in safeguarding patient safety, minimizing risks, and ensuring that each surgery proceeds smoothly and efficiently.
