Extraordinary 2024
As we reflect on an extraordinary 2024, we’re thrilled to celebrate the milestones we have achieved - advancing medical knowledge, promoting collaboration, and breaking surgical barriers.
Our personal audit has shown that this year we have managed to exceed expectations by undertaking over 150 major colorectal procedures, 85% in patients suffering with malignancy, completed in 97% of cases laparoscopically, where applicable. We cared for patients as old as 94 years old and as young as 19 years old, with the median age of our patients being 71 years old. Our 30-day mortality and morbidity outcomes were better or comparable to the national averages of advanced countries such as the United Kingdom (NBOCA audit) and the United States, reflecting the high standards of our practice and encouraging us to continue providing care of the highest level to our patients.
2024 also saw our first Cypriot patients declared cancer free, after finishing their 5-year surveillance programme following their cancer surgery. These achievements would not have been possible without the trust bestowed upon us by our patients and their families, to whom we would like to send our best wishes and message of care and empowerment, especially to those still fighting with their disease.
Last but not least, we would like to thank our nursing staff, colleagues, work-partners and families for their constant and unwavering support.
