With over thirty years of experience at the British Council in Cyprus, I have acquired a vast amount of knowledge and expertise. In my role as Director Resources, I was managing every aspect of the Human Resources area from personal performance to coaching, mentoring and leading individuals to overcome challenges and achieve their greatest potential. mething I do, it is my passion. During the past ten years, I continued my training because I wanted to take it to a deeper level of understanding and connection. The Power of Heart Meditation
Research at the University of Kassel in Witzenhausen, Germany, in 1997, showed that it is possible to produce visible light from the chest area under certain conditions. The first condition is that the meditation technique must be heart-centered. Secondly, a specific person with an actual need must be identified as a receiver of the transmitted light. Under these conditions, a sustained light emission of 100,000 photons per second was measured, where only the background count of 20 photons per second was observed without meditation.

The Power of Thoughts and Words
Appreciating vs Complaining

Words like everything else in our world are a form of vibration, that is why they seek similar vibrations and bind together to create a very powerful force. We can see this as the result of the thinking of entire cultures that becomes very powerful indeed. Our thoughts , words, intentions and beliefs are part of what we, as human beings, are creating. When we complain we are sending more energy to what we are complaining about, increasing its vibration, making it even stronger and the situation worse.
We have the power to create the opposite effect by learning to think and speak with loving, kind, compassionate and caring thoughts and words. We can change the vibration to a higher frequency and create more good, more love and more kindness in our own life and in the world.
The challenge is to listen carefully to your own words and see if they match the kind of world you would love to live in. If they do not, then begin to work towards a positive change. Your change has to come from you--from within you. This will have a ripple effect on everything and everyone in your life. With our thoughts and words we can appreciate all we have, we can create the more Love, Joy, Peace, Beauty and the Universal Compassion we seek for all living beings, ourselves included.

From the moment we are born to this very point of our life, we call the present moment, we have gone through many many changes, physically, emotionally, mentally. Some of these changes may have been challenging, some may have pushed our limits to help us expand our awareness and understanding.
Acknowledging, respecting, accepting and most importantly deeply loving who we are today, this version of ourself in the now and the life journey that has shaped us, allows us to move forward.

Listen to the Way You Think and Speak
Positive Emphatic and the Subconscious Mind

Most of us know the concept of positive thinking. Very simply it is to focus your thoughts on what you do want, not what you do not want, what you can do, not what you cannot do, what you like, how you actually want to be and what you want to happen.
For example 'I don't want to look foolish' is a negative statement. ' I want to look as if I know what I am taking about' is a positive statement. To the conscious mind it implies the same thing. The subconsciou, however, does not understand implications especially when we think we confirm something with emphasis. Here is an example 'I am determined not to fail' This is actually a negative statement even though it is emphatic, whereas, 'I am determined to succeed' is totally positive and carries an entirely different message to the subconscious which is only objective, that is it can only work on what actually is. It has no understanding of what is not. If I say 'do not think of a red car' you probably brought the image of a red car to your mind. This is because the only image the subconscious mind can have is the object of the statement. It is important to give our subconscious mind clarity to support us in what we want.
So going back to the emphatic statement ' I am determined not to fail' focuses on the word fail, whereas, I am determined to succeed ' focuses on the word succeed. The more we can put into positive emphatic form what we want, the clearer, the stronger the message to the subconscious mind. We can take this further and create our own list of positive emphatic affirmations to support us in what we want to achieve.

Discovering Your Truth

How important is it for each one of us to speak our individual truth. Our truth is different from every other person, it may be similar, but not the same. Have you ever noticed after attending an event or lecture, that for the same experience, people had a different opinion from yours.
We all filter words and thoughts that come to us based on our own personal perspectives, so we see and hear different 'truths.'
If you have difficulty with expression, or as may be true for many, you may not even know who you really are, and would like to express your truth, JOURNALING is a powerful tool for self discovery. Sit somewhere comfortable and be completely truthful in what you write, say it like it is for you. If you are hurting, allow that hurt to come out, if you are angry, allow that anger to come out, be who you are. The point is to be authentic so that you can trust yourself to be truthful on the pages of your journal.
In this way you begin to give yourself permission to be you, to speak your mind and to voice your truth. The pain, the anger, the sadness flows from you to the paper and is a great way to bring about relief and self discovery.

Giving up "When" for "Now"

Take two pieces of paper. On the top of one write "I will be happy when ...." and on the top of the other write "I will be happy if ....."
Take some time to complete each question as many times as you can.
This will help you understand how many conditions you have set for yourself, that you are often waiting for people and events to happen before you can be happy, before you can start smiling.
This moment, this day, this life only happens once. Today will never happen again.
Let us choose to live today in the best way possible, choosing to find joy, choosing to smile, choosing to be grateful for all the good that is in our life, focusing on the good, appreciating, having humour, laughing, loving, sharing.

Here is a beautiful ancient blessing, created in the Nahuatl language, spoken in Mexico. It deals with forgiveness, affection, detachment and liberation.

What Vibrations are You Sending Out

Everything we see and even what our senses cannot grasp or our mind understand is energy vibrating at a certain frequency. The nature of energy is to vibrate, to move and to rotate. The speed of vibration determines the state of things: solid, liquid or gas. Vibration is the result of moving electrons and protons of every atom of matter. Organic matter vibrates quicker then inorganic. Science can measure these frequencies. For example, love exists at 528hz, nature-us at 432hz, Earth 7.83hz and all is fluctuating.
We are a living vibrating beings. We send out vibrations such as voice, thoughts, feelings, actions, light.. and we receive them in the same manner with addition to food and water. As we learn and understand this, we become aware of the energy or vibration we are sending out. The more we can connect with love, compassion and gratitude within our own heart, the more we are sending, vibrating at this level outward and the more we receive it in return.
At what level are you vibrating most of the day? Take time throughout the day to connect with your heart and to feel love, compassion, gratitude within. The more you do this, the more you connect with these higher frequencies, the better, healthier, happier you become.

Your Meaning of Success
If you were asked 'What is your definition of Success?', what would you say?
Perhaps for someone it is an ideal job, a wonderful relationship, an expensive home, getting a promotion, fame.
However, the kind of success I would like you to consider is not in getting something or somewhere, but rather in looking at success as a state of feeling. Here are a few examples;
Success for me means feeling loved, cherished, appreciated. Success for me means feeling safe, peaceful, abundant. Success for me means feeling proud, honoured, acknowledged.
Try to answer this question for yourself as many times as you can focusing on the feeling.
Success for me means feeling .........
Know the feelings that are important for you and then ask yourself ' How can I feel more .......loved, appreciated, proud, safe whatever it is.
If success for you is feeling appreciated and acknowledged, then how can I feel more appreciated. Perhaps it is through appreciating and acknowledging yourself and others. If it is feeling loved, to feel more love by extending love to yourself and those around you.
We all can connect to each other's feelings, success is to know, to own and to give out those feelings that are important to you.

Emotional Intelligence
How many times have we reacted and then thought 'I wish I had never said that or acted that way.' This could happen in your personal life or in your work environment.
Emotional Intelligence means being able to choose the right emotion to the right degree according to the situation.
Here is a 5 step model from 'Key Coaching Models' by Stephen Gribben that is very helpful.
Step 1- Become aware of what you are feeling. This can be challenging, especially if you are feeling an emotion like anger. A good question to always ask yourself is 'How am I feeling right now?' This always connects you to you. Just become aware of what you are feeling.
Step2 - Name it to yourself. For example ' I am feeling angry right now.' This helps you realize you are not your emotions. Emotions are just a movement of energy in the body, E-motion, energy in motion. When you name it, it is easier to deal with it.
Step3 - Accept it. What you are feeling is true for you and it is ok to feel it. Something has triggered it.
Step4 - Do nothing. Perhaps the most Important step. This could be letting it rest until the next day or taking a deep breath and counting backwards from 9 to 0 and taking another deep breath.
Step5 - Decide how you want to respond. This gives you control. Instead of just reacting, you choose how you want to respond so that you can get the best outcome.
The more you practice these 5 steps, the easier it becomes to gain control over your emotions and respond rather than react.

The Power of Words, Images and Sounds

Words and phrases play an important role in our life. Just like thoughts, they create feelings, which create the energy of our body. We can choose specific words whenever we want to bring up positive images and sounds. We can relax and distress throughout our busy day and create a calm, peaceful, happy, grateful, abundant feeling within us in just a few seconds.
Just think and imagine a sea of love, a sea of happiness, a calm blue sea of peace.
Each thought creates a feeling. Find you own peaceful, loving words, a phrase that you can use to calm yourself whenever you need to, which helps you return to peace within.

Seeing Clearly - Happiness is What is Important to You

One of the keys to happiness is to see clearly what is important to you. Many times people get ill and unhappy because they forget what is Important or they may know what is important but put most of their time and energy and attention elsewhere.
Instead of focusing on what is important to them, they get lost in the small details and lose what is really of value.
As explained by Robert Holden in his book ' Happiness Now' it is important to focus on what he calls 'Present-Time-Goals'. This means to focus on the here and now.
Happiness and healing is all about remembering what is important and letting go of the rest.
Here is an exercise to help you.
Write ten things you love to do and then write next to them the last date you did each one. Now write ten names of people in your life that are really important to you. Next write next to each name the date when you last spent quality time together. Lastly write the ten most important feelings you want to feel and write next to each the last time you felt them?
This exercise will show you if you are putting your energy and attention on what is really important and valuable to you right now, not on some future time or place but here today.
Ask yourself -
If I want to feel love, how loving can I be today?
If I want to feel joy, what can I do to bring more joy into to my life today?
If I want to feel connected, understood, how can I connect more deeply with others, be more understanding today.

Creating Space for Silence
Silence is a powerful tool in nourishing the soul and healing the heart.
Most of the day we are surrounded by a fast-moving, noisy and demanding world with no space for silence. It is up to us to take time, slow down and create a daily practice of silence, even for a few minutes a day. It helps our body and mind to relax and de-stress.
Sometimes our thoughts are so many and so fast, it is difficult to move into a space of silence. We can do this by focusing on one word like 'peace' or 'love' or 'hope' and keep repeating it in our mind slowly in silence. The more we practice, the easier it becomes. This can be very soothing as the mind calms and the body relaxes and begins to resonate with the word 'peace' or 'love' or 'hope', it allows space for inner healing, for nourishing the soul and the heart.
