📣A common question among our patients is what material is the best for their crowns and bridges. A very usual concern is whether these materials are biologically accepted by the body and if they break easily!
Here is what we use in our clinic based on longterm clinical trials and research:
👉 Porcelain fused to metal(PFM): it has long been used in dentistry for crowns and bridges, especially in long span bridges. If you are missing many teeth and are going to have a bridge, PFM is the gold standard, as the metal underneath ensures that the bridge is not going to break. However, porcelain breakage on the top is a common complication. Additionally, metal can sometimes interfere with successful esthetic results.
👉 Zirconia: is a relatively new material which is even stronger than metal! It is biologically friendly to the gums and preferred in modern dentistry. It does not require any porcelain addition, and it is very difficult to break.
👉Emax: is a type of porcelain used mainly for the anterior teeth as it has high esthetic properties.
In our clinic, we use all types of materials based on each individual’s needs. Zirconia is being used more and more in the clinical setting and requires a specialized milling machine to be produced. As a modern dental clinic, we mill zirconia crowns in a daily basis in our place, to ensure that you get the best quality possible!
