🌻 Many of us can benefit from massage - its a great way to improve wellness, help with pain and more.
In addition to soothing sore muscles, massage therapy can reduce bodily pain in people who struggle with chronic pain or any syndrome of which pain is a side effect.
Regular massages can also help to reduce the level of stress and anxiety you feel on a daily basis and improve the quality of your sleep. 🌻

🌻 We all feel down from time-to time, and that's perfectly okay!

Remember, these feelings are temporary and we have the power to improve our mood and outlook by taking care of ourselves and seeking support from loved ones or professionals when needed.

Here are some quick ways we can boost our brains 'happy chemicals' which can provide short-term relief if you're feeling stuck 💛

☀︎ Dopamine

This is our "reward chemical". How can we increase it?
Try something new or complete tasks from a short to-do list.

☀︎ Serotonin

The body's natural "mood stabilizer". How can we boost it?
Connect with nature, take deep breaths of fresh air and allow the warmth of the sun soak into your skin.

☀︎ Endorphins

The body's natural "feel-good chemicals". How can we increase it?
Exercise, pilates, going for a walk. Anything that requires moving your body.

☀︎ Oxytocin

The body's natural "love hormone". How can we increase it?
Boosting oxytocin is all about connection. Spend time with loved ones and don't forget to spread kindness.

This is why a tight and/or inflamed Piriformis (Απιοειδής μυς) can be one of the causes of Sciatica-like pain (Ισχιαλγεία). When this happens the sciatic nerve becomes compressed and/or irritated causing the pain, tingling and numbness.

🔈 RELATIONSHIP OF SCIATIC NERVE TO PIRIFORMIS

(A) The sciatic nerve usually emerges from the greater sciatic foramen inferior to the piriformis.

(B) In 12.2% of 640 limbs studied by Dr. J. C. B. Grant, the sciatic nerve divided before exiting the greater sciatic foramen; the common fibular division (yellow) passed through the piriformis.

(C) In 0.5% of cases, the common fibular division passed superior to the muscles where it is especially vulnerable to injury during intragluteal injections.

Did you know that long term stress releases sympathetic hormones, noradrenaline and adrenaline, which can have a negative impact on your health, mood, productivity, relationships, and your quality of life?

Living life in that fight or flight mode (also known as sympathetic state) increases muscle contraction, heart rate and blood flow.

Often people who are constantly stressed find their energy levels depleted and can develop problems like tension headaches and migraines as well as other muscular chronic pains.

Long term stress can cause a variety of symptoms and affect your overall sense of well-being and homeostasis.

Our rest and digest (also know as the parasympathetic state) stimulates those feel good neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin which help to slow our heart and breathing rate, lower blood pressure and promote digestion. Our body enters a state of relaxation and this relaxation benefits our muscular health and breeds recovery.

A lot of people can relate to the above stress induced symptoms.

🌻 One of the beautiful things about massage is it enhances the parasympathetic state, so if you are living in a state of stress I can help you. I am passionate about helping you back to Wellness.

🌻 August is the National Wellness Month so we want to share with you the 8 Dimensions of Wellness.
This post is a little reminder to check in with yourself and make any adjustments where needed.

Often in modern culture Wellness is only accredited to skincare, vegan diets and 3-5 days in the gym but it is more than that.

It is the Holistic integration of your Mind, Body, Soul.
All areas are inter-connected and being fulfilled in one area will affect other areas as well, both negatively and positively.

Remember that we are all on our own unique path and perfection is just an illusion.
Wellness isn’t a destination — it’s a Lifestyle and it’s normal for the dimensions to shift in different stages of life and for wellness to evolve as time goes on.

Important things to remember after your massage...

1. Drink plenty of water on the day of your massage and after. Muscles feel and perform best when they are fully hydrated.

2. Bathing in warm water will further help melt away tension and soreness. Add Magnesium Flakes or Epsom Salt to encourage muscle recovery.

4. Massage puts your body into relax and digest state, which can cause nausea or diarrhoea if you put unhealthy food or a heavy meal in your body directly following massage. Eating a healthy, light snack after massage will keep your energy up and provide nutrients without upsetting the digestive system.

5. Relax...do something you enjoy that doesn't cause strain on your body. This will further deepen the mind body connection and will prevent soreness.
