You're not alone! Back pain will affect almost everyone at some point in their life. It can be a constant, dull ache or a sudden, sharp pain.
The spine is one of the strongest parts of the body providing flexibility and strength and it is designed to move - too much inactivity can make your back pain worse.

You're more at risk of developing back pain if:

- You're not physically fit (however too much exercise can also cause back pain).
- You have a poor diet and an inactive lifestyle.
- You have a physically demanding job.
- You have a desk job or poor posture.
- Your stress level is high - depression, anxiety or poor sleep can increase the risk.
- You're over the age of 40.

Back pain is an extremely common complaint we see in our clients, we get great results using a combination of acupuncture, low level laser, cupping and simple isometric exercises.

A new umbrella review has found high quality evidence that acupuncture is effective for insomnia and can also improve anxiety and depression.

Insomnia affects approximately one third of the global population and is a common sleep disorder where you're unable to fall asleep, or you wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep or you find yourself waking up early.

Insomnia can be caused by stress, an irregular work schedule, mental health disorders, medication, medical conditions or a change of activity level.
Symptoms include irritability, impaired cognitive function, feeling tired/sleepy during the day, headaches, digestive issues and mood swings.

Chinese medicine sees insomnia as a disruption of yin and yang. Yin rules the night with coolness, nourishment, calm and rest. Yang gives us energy, warmth and alertness during the day. If this natural rhythm is interrupted there is an imbalance which causes insomnia.

Acupuncture restores balance in the body, promoting better sleep, relaxation and enhancing overall wellbeing.

Cupping therapy is brilliant for easing musculoskeletal pain, relieving muscle tension and improving circulation, blood flow and flexibility.

The cups are placed on the skin for 5-10 minutes and the vacuum that's created moves toxins to the surface of the skin and pulls fresh blood into the area. The new blood flow helps to flush toxins through the lymphatic system and so encourages better circulation and reduced fluid retention.

The marks left by the cups aren't bruises, just the toxins being brought up to the skin's surface. The darker the colour, the more toxins and stagnation in that area. The marks typically last between 3-7 days, with each session the marks will get lighter in colour as circulation and muscle health improves.

As well as treating musculoskeletal issues, cupping therapy is a soothing and natural way to relax and de-stress, especially when combined with acupuncture.

Stress is a natural response to everyday situations and life's challenges. It can be positive by helping the body adjust to new experiences. When stress becomes chronic and long-term it can start to affect your physical, mental and emotional health and well-being.

If the body feels threatened, the sympathetic nervous system activates, releasing stress hormones to prepare 'fight or flight' mode. When the threat has gone, the parasympathetic system takes over releasing feel-good chemicals to help the body activate 'rest and digest' mode.

Studies show that acupuncture can help to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) and boosts dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline and GABA - the body's own natural feel-good chemicals. This helps to lower blood pressure, reduce heart rate, promotes better sleep and calms the mind.

Stress can weaken the immune system, contributing to other health problems such as anxiety, insomnia, heart disease, depression, headaches and digestive issues.

💚Spring is the season for rebirth, renewal and regrowth. The Liver and Gallbladder are the organs associated with spring. The Liver is responsible for aiding digestion and purifying the blood. It renews, cleans and energises the body. The Gallbladder aids this function by storing bile which helps break down food.
💚The Liver relates to the emotions of anger and kindness. Anger stagnates Liver qi which can cause feelings of stress, frustration, digestive problems and menstrual problems with physical signs including stiffness and muscle tension.
💚Spring is the perfect time to try something new and let things go - get rid of the negative emotions caused by situations or people.
💚Liver qi loves fresh air! Keep qi flowing smoothly by exercising, it doesn't have to be an intense workout, just a gentle walk will help keep that qi moving and help you feel balanced.

✨️Endometriosis is one of the world's most painful health conditions affecting about 10% of reproductive women globally. That's around 190 million people! In the UK it affects 1 in 10 women with a diagnosis taking on average 8 years to reach.

✨️It's a chronic illness that causes emotional and mental stress with severe physical pain. Common symptoms are pelvic pain, painful periods that affect everyday living, pain during or after s*x, painful bowel movements, pain when peeing, infertility, fatigue and depression.

✨️The actual cause of endometriosis is unknown and currently there is NO CURE, treatments available include pain and anti-inflammatory medications, hormonal therapies and surgery.

✨️In Chinese medicine, endometriosis is due to stagnation in the body, mainly Blood and qi. If the flow of these is disrupted then there is pain and discomfort. Research is showing that acupuncture can help endometriosis sufferers by reducing pain, inflammation and the reoccurrence of symptoms, balancing hormones, boosting the immune system and being beneficial for mental health.

✨️As you can see, acupuncture needles are very thin and fine. Only the tip of the needle is inserted - you may feel a tiny pinch when this happens as some areas of the body are more sensitive than others.

✨️You might experience warmth, tingling, itchiness, heaviness, aching or a mild electric-like feeling along a limb. If any of these sensations become uncomfortable then the needle can be adjusted or removed. Sometimes there can be minor bleeding or bruising.

✨️However most clients don't even realise the needles are in and find the whole experience restful and relaxing! Some even fall asleep during the treatment!
