👁️‍🗨️ A red eye isn’t just a cosmetic issue. Give it the care it deserves – we’ll help you find the cause and the right treatment.

You wake up, glance in the mirror, and… vampire eye. 🧛 It’s not always a drama, but a red eye can have many causes – and sometimes serious consequences.

🔴 What is it exactly?
When tiny blood vessels on the surface of the eye burst, the white of the eye turns pink or red. It might burn, itch, sting, or cause blurry vision.

Symptoms you shouldn’t ignore:
▪️ burning, stinging, or itching
▪️ the feeling of “something in your eye”
▪️ dryness or, on the contrary, excessive tearing
▪️ eye discharge
▪️ blurry vision
▪️ pain and sensitivity to light

What could be behind it?
🔹 Allergies – to pollen, dust, perfume, mold…
🔹 Dry eyes – caused by air conditioning, screen time, or lack of sleep
🔹 Infections – viruses or bacteria often affect just one eye

And how is it treated?
▪️ Eye drops – the first line of relief
▪️ Lubricating drops – for dry eyes
▪️ Antibiotics / creams / tablets – if it’s an infection
▪️ Rest – your body (and your eyes) need time to recover!

❗ If your eye hurts, keeps watering, your vision worsens, or the condition doesn’t improve – visit an eye doctor. Quick diagnosis = quicker recovery. 😉

Do you feel like you couldn’t survive the summer without air conditioning? ☀️ Did you know that while it keeps you cool, it might also be harming your health? Air conditioning can be a good servant, but a bad master.

If you spend a lot of time in air-conditioned spaces and your eyes are often under strain – for example, from working on a computer – you might be at risk of developing dry eye syndrome. 🫣 And in extreme cases, this condition can lead to irreversible damage to your vision.

❗ If your eyes burn or itch in air-conditioned rooms, if you feel like you have sand in your eyes, if they water more than usual, or your allergy symptoms worsen – air conditioning could be the culprit. Don’t ignore these symptoms. If left untreated, they can lead to corneal drying, infection, or even a corneal ulcer. And that’s definitely not something you want.

Our tip? Always keep artificial tears on hand. They’ll help keep your eyes properly hydrated. You can use them as often as every 5 minutes, if needed. 💧

💬 What about you? Do you have experience with air conditioning and irritated eyes? Do your eyes burn at the office or in the car? Let us know in the comments how you deal with it during summer. 😊

We asked an eye doctor how to protect your eyes while swimming in nature. 😉

Hot summer days are perfect for cooling off in a lake or pond. But while you're enjoying a refreshing dip, dirty or contaminated water can get into your eyes and lead to conjunctivitis or even a corneal infection. 🫣 What should you keep in mind to avoid these issues?

👉 Don’t swim in water with cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) for more than 10 minutes – after that, your skin starts to absorb more harmful substances.
👉 Keep your eyes closed underwater.
👉 Avoid drying off with a towel immediately after swimming – you might rub algae even deeper into your skin or eyes.
👉 Rinse off with clean water as soon as possible and wash away any algae thoroughly.

What if contaminated water does get into your eyes? 👀
Your best first aid is to rinse your eyes with clean water – ideally with boric acid solution or special disinfectant eye drops. 💧
If you’re not experiencing any symptoms, no further treatment is needed. But if your eyes itch, burn or appear red, it's a good idea to visit an eye doctor to rule out any damage to the cornea.

How to deal with the most common eye issues during summer? 🤔

❗Conjunctivitis on holiday❗
Start by applying over-the-counter eye drops to the affected eye. If the symptoms don’t improve – if your eye continues to hurt, you have to squint, or you're sensitive to light – it's important to see an eye doctor. Even abroad, as they need to assess whether it might be a more serious eye infection.

❗Sand in the eyes❗
If you or your child gets sand in your eyes at the beach, the best first aid is rinse, rinse, and rinse again. 💦 Use clean water, bottled water, or even eye drops to flush the eye thoroughly.

❗Beware of contact lenses❗
Do you swim while wearing contact lenses? If so, the safest choice is daily disposable lenses that you throw away at the end of the day. This helps prevent serious infections of the front part of the eye, such as corneal inflammation. 😉

Woke up with red eyes and sticky eyelids this morning? 😵 It might be conjunctivitis!

👁️ What is it, exactly?
The conjunctiva is a thin membrane that covers the white part of your eye and the inside of your eyelids. When it becomes inflamed, we call it conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye. The most common causes include:
🔹 Viruses or bacteria
🔹 Allergies (pollen, dust, pets...)
🔹 Irritation from chlorine, wind, dust, or cosmetics
🔹 Poor hygiene – like touching your eyes with dirty hands

🔍 How do you recognize conjunctivitis?
🔹 Red, bloodshot eyes
🔹 Excessive tearing or a mucous discharge
🔹 Burning, stinging, or itching
🔹 A gritty or foreign body sensation
🔹 Sticky eyelids in the morning

💊 What can you do? It depends on the cause:
🔹 Viral conjunctivitis: usually clears up on its own – cool compresses and good hygiene can help
🔹 Bacterial conjunctivitis: treated with antibiotic drops or ointment (prescribed by a doctor)
🔹 Allergic conjunctivitis: antihistamines or special eye drops may bring relief
🔹 For all types: practice good hygiene, don’t touch your eyes, avoid wearing contact lenses, and use only clean towels!

📌 When should you see an eye doctor?
✔️ If symptoms last more than 2–3 days
✔️ If you have heavy discharge or blurred vision
✔️ If you wear contact lenses – the infection may be more serious

👀 Have you ever had conjunctivitis? What helped you the most? 👉 Share your experience in the comments – tips from others are always welcome! 💙

Have you ever damaged your eyes from the sun? Today we’re sharing what to do if it happens to you. 👀

You probably know that harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can damage not only your skin but also your eyes. 🫣 All it takes is skipping your sunglasses and spending too long looking into the sun or exposing your eyes to UV rays reflected off sand or water and you might end up with photokeratitis: a type of eye damage caused by UV exposure. 🤷‍♀️

This kind of “sunburn” affects mainly the cornea and usually heals within a few days. But it can be very painful and just like with sunburned skin, you might not notice the symptoms until the damage is already done. 😓

Common signs include:
❌Eye and head pain
❌ Blurred vision
❌ A gritty or sandy feeling in the eyes
❌ Sensitivity to bright light
❌ Constricted pupils
❌ Eyelid twitching
❌ Red, watery, or swollen eyes
❌ In rare cases, temporary vision loss 😵‍💫

The good news? Photokeratitis usually heals on its own. Here’s what you can do in the meantime to ease the discomfort: 👇
✅ Remove your contact lenses if you're wearing any
✅ Use lubricating eye drops (a.k.a. artificial tears)
✅ Rest your eyes in a dark or dimly lit room
✅ Take over-the-counter pain relievers
✅ Apply a cold compress to your closed eyes (a cloth soaked in cold water works great)
✅ Avoid rubbing your eyes

❗If symptoms don’t improve after a few days, or if they feel especially severe, it's best to consult an eye doctor.

💧🏖️ Swimming and contact lenses? Better not! Summer is perfect for a dip in the pool, a swim at the lake, or a splash in the sea. But if you wear contact lenses, be careful, water and contacts don’t mix well. Here’s why 👇

❌ Risk of infection
Even crystal-clear water can contain bacteria and microorganisms that easily get trapped under your lenses and lead to irritation or infection.

❌ Lost lenses
Waves, diving, or jumping into the water – your lens can shift or fall out completely. And finding it in the water? Mission impossible. 😅

❌ Irritated eyes
Chlorine, salt, and other impurities in water can irritate your eyes on their own. Combined with contacts, it puts even more strain on them.

✅ So, what can you do?
If swimming without contacts isn’t an option, opt for daily disposable lenses and wear swimming goggles. And always throw the lenses away immediately after your swim!
