Having Sickle cell disease and being pregnant
🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴
🔴 Sickle cell disease increases your risk of the following:
💥preeclampsia during pregnancy
💥 crisis during pregnancy
💥Blood clot formation during pregnancy
💥 Multiple miscarriages
💥Having a baby that’s very small
💥Stillbirth or baby passing shortly after birth
🔴 If there is no need for a cesarean section, you should opt for a spontaneous delivery as that is a safer option for you. A cesarean delivery for you comes with a higher risk of blood clot formation and infection.
🔴 Find a skilled obgyn to walk you through your journey . Very important.
🔴 Stay hydrated and take your folic acid . This is very important.
🔴 Don’t skip any antenatal appointments
🔴. Discuss with your obgyn before you begin making any pregnancy plans .
🔴 If not ready to get pregnant, discuss with your obgyn to put you on specific contraception types as some can significantly reduce the number of crisis episodes you have .
