How to deal with chronic back pain? 🔵

Many patients often complain of chronic back pain that significantly impedes daily functioning. This pain can be caused by a variety of factors, such as injuries, poor postural habits, strains, or medical conditions. It often occurs when lifting heavy loads, sitting or even lying down. 💥

A common cause of chronic pain is mechanical overloading of the spine, which leads to a loss of its natural elasticity and the formation of micro-damage in the spaces between the vertebrae. In fact, up to 97% of spinal pain is due to mechanical overload.

One of the key methods of prevention is to eliminate bad habits that contribute to the ailment. If you work at a desk, you're especially vulnerable to back pain, so it's important to make sure you take regular breaks, do short exercises and spend active time after work. Be sure to adjust your chair and its backrest properly.

Regular exercise is another effective form of dealing with back pain, as it will help you reverse the mechanical changes that have occurred. Exercises such as swimming, yoga, tai chi or walking can be beneficial in improving and reducing pain. In addition, you may be interested in physical therapy, massage and relaxation techniques such as deep massage, acupuncture or manual therapy, which provide relief from chronic back pain by reducing muscle tension and improving blood circulation. 🏃🏼‍♂️

Is it happening again? Your period came and your back pain returned? 💥

47.8% of women worldwide experience PMS. Its symptoms include 👉🏻 back pain (especially lumbar pain), change in aptitude, weight gain, irritability, nausea, among others. The list is even longer. If you experience back pain during your period that particularly bothers you, it's worth considering whether it's PMS.

As to the etiology of this syndrome is still debated. This is because PMS has not been linked to any part of the natural menstrual cycle. So where to look for the problem?

👉🏻 It is likely that there is an increase in the volume of fluid in the spinal region, which can increase swelling in the disc area and compress nerve structures. Thus, many women immediately before menstruation experience pain that radiates to the buttock area, groin or lower limb. [1]

👉🏻 Recent research from 2023, however, shows that the whole PMS syndrome may be related to diet. It turns out that junk food, sweets and less physical activity are also significantly linked to the syndrome. [2]
