First Faculty of Medicine with almost 1 200 staff members and 3 400 students represents the largest medical faculty in the Czech Republic. It is an integral part of Charles University in Prague from its foundation by the King of Bohemia and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Charles the Fourth in 1348. As such, it is also the oldest medical faculty in Central Europe. However, it is not just the majestic history and impressive quantitative measures that would be enough to make the institution successful and competitive. It must be ideas, people, capacities and management, which finally will be responsible for the future, profit and serviceability of any institution. We will be happy answer any of your questions regarding study and life in Prague.

🏸 Badminton stole the show at Sports Day!

🤗 "Throughout the day, the atmosphere was friendly yet competitive. Students cheered each other on, socialised between matches, and it was great to hear Czech and international students exchanging stories about life at the faculty," says Jakub Jiroušek from the Institute of Physical Education at the First Faculty of Medicine, who co-organised the event.

🎓 Meet our new vice-deans! Robert Jech and Kamil Švabík have taken on the roles, bringing their expertise to drive excellence in research funding and international studies at First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University.

🔬 "Top-level research cannot be done without adequate funding – and domestic sources are drying up. My priority is to improve conditions for applicants seeking international grants," says Robert Jech, the new Vice-Dean for Grant Projects. A graduate of the First Faculty of Medicine, he serves as Head of the Neurology Clinic at CU 1ST MED and VFN. He has completed fellowships at the Montreal Neurological Institute, University of Minnesota, and Max Planck Institute. His research focuses on Parkinson's disease, dystonia and spasticity, and he is the author of over 300 scientific publications.

🤝 "Students are my colleagues – we respect and work with each other. International study plays a key role at our faculty; it's our calling card and our window to the world," says Kamil Švabík, the new Vice-Dean for International Studies in English. A urogynecologist and reconstructive surgeon specialising in pelvic floor dysfunction, he is among the world's leading experts in his field and an active member of the European and International Urogynecological Associations.

ℹ️ The outgoing Vice-Deans have joined the Rector's Board at Charles University – Petra Lišková as Vice-Rector for Research and Creative Activity, and Michal Vrablík as Vice-Rector for International Affairs. Congratulations to both, and thank you for everything!

🌍 From Ethiopia to the Czech Republic — and all the way to the United States.

🎓 Our successful alumnus, Professor Temesgen, is now working at the Mayo Clinic in the U.S. But what did his journey look like? How did his studies at our faculty shape his path? And what inspired him to dedicate his career to infectious diseases, particularly HIV and tuberculosis?

🎞️ In the video, he also shares what advice he would give to current and prospective students of our faculty.
