Nia Andrea

Nia Andrea I am a certified Nia teacher with over twenty years of experience in the dance arts. I teach regular Welcome to my page!

This page is a portal for announcements of Nia-Andrea events and classes, as well as a place to share current health tips, inspirations, and information on any local events that may be of interest. Nia Andrea offers ongoing classes in Nia and Yoga classes, taught by myself, Andrea von Wurmb, and my partner in movement, Simone Deppe. Nia invites you to dance your dance and to find new pleasure in

areas beyond. Its open choreography offers you a conditioning workout and fluid fascial refinement through a stimulating variety of moves. Percussive, jazzy, playful, dramatic movements from taekwondo, aikido and the dance arts meet with the fluidity, lengthening, and expansiveness of tai-chi, yoga, and the healing arts. Nia will get you moving to great music and ground you in body, mind, emotion and spirit. You will come out of class feeling satisfied and energized. My personal mission is to offer a body-mind workout that keeps you conditioned and healthy, and, above all, to create a space where you can dance what moves you.

HOW TO STRENGTHEN YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM
This is one of the most simple, fundamental, effective – and challenging – practices I know. But once you learn it, it can change how you react to life and its craziness.

Here's how to do it!

Sit comfortably in an armchair. No need for a meditation pose or anything like that. Just sit in a posture that feels ok and where you can sit for quite a while.

(As an alternative, you can also do it together with a partner, as in the picture, but I'd suggest you start on your own.)

Then just sit. And follow what's happening in your body and especially in your nervous system. In the beginning, you might notice some restlessness, fidgeting with hands or feet, thoughts about this and that.

And that's just fine!

You're just sitting and allowing things to happen and gradually settle. You might notice that a thought triggers a reaction in your body. Or that an emotion in your body triggers a thought.

Just fine.

Allow it to happen and let the process of settling down continue.

After a while, you might notice it's easier to sit. You're not so busy anymore. The initial restlessness is gone. It feels quite ok, actually.

At one point, you might notice a shift in your body. You maybe want to label it "relaxation". Or "feeling good". Or "peace of body". Or something similar.

What's actually happening is that you’ve shifted from your active (often over-active) sympathetic nervous system to your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest).

This usually feels really good. Like finding rest. And stillness. Because this is our natural state of being.

Every time you're doing this practice, you’re making it easier for you to shift from your busy you to the other part of your nervous system – your restful you.

Equally important: You’re strengthening this crucial part of your nervous system.

In other words: You're building and strengthening the cornerstones of your being – the peaceful strength that can carry you through life.

Now, do something from this state of being! Whatever. Work. Friends. Your movement practice. And see how it feels.

Enjoy
/Peter

A simple change of perspective that can change everything

So good.

So good.

There are many choices available to us women in this life – but when it comes to your body, there are only two:
Accept it
Or don’t.
You see, if you choose to accept your body, you will soon start to love it, admire it, look after it. These things all follow in the wake of your acceptance.

When you realise that this vessel for your soul, for your spirit, is an instrument of such high design and fine tuning that it boggles the mind to even think about, you will enter into a phase which I like to call ‘peace, at last’.
You will care nothing of spare fat, grey hairs, loose skin.
You will realise, eventually, that the body’s purpose is not to look good, to attract friends, partners, successes – that it is, in fact, your spirit which does all of those things.
If you would only allow it to shine through and work its magic.
Your body, my friends, has but one job, to see you safely through this adventure of life, to allow your spirit to reach its potential.
That is it.
If you are on the path of not accepting your body – you are in for a very long battle – against an enemy you have no power to defeat. Nature, time, biology, fate…
You don’t have the weapons to fight those powers.
Wave the white flag.
Give in.
Accept.
It is then that your life will truly begin.
