Step by step back to life – with cutting-edge Neurotechnology
-------------------------
Regaining independence often begins with a single step. For many stroke patients, learning to walk again is a major challenge — and a crucial milestone.

At Kliniken Schmieder, our motor rehabilitation specialists are working hand in hand with the Lurija Research Institute to develop innovative approaches. One example: Incedo™, a state-of-the-art therapy device that stimulates reflex zones in the foot to activate natural movement patterns. This helps the brain relearn how to walk — even in severely affected individuals.🧠

Led by Prof. Liepert, our team has already achieved remarkable results: patients are making real progress — both physically and emotionally.☺️

International Collaboration for Better Rehabilitation Outcomes
----------
A unique partnership between Kliniken Schmieder and our Kazakh partner Dos Medicus is bringing German medical excellence closer to patients in Kazakhstan.

In a recent online consultation, Dr. Neumann, senior physician at Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach, shared her expertise with the Dos Medicus team and the family of a patient undergoing rehabilitation in Astana. The focus: evaluating the next therapeutic steps and discussing advanced treatment options available at Kliniken Schmieder in Germany.

This collaboration exemplifies our shared goal — combining the strengths of both institutions to offer patients access to high-end, cross-border medical care.
Bridging countries. Empowering patients. Improving lives.

Did you already know?

At Kliniken Schmieder, we are convinced that every step in the recovery journey counts. To determine a patients progress, we conduct the so-called “Kliniken Schmieder Assessment” a comprehensive assessments of patients abilities to perform certain tasks.

The assessment helps us to track measurable progress in motor skills, cognitive function, and overall independence. By comparing results, from before and after the rehabilitation, we can see how each patient has benefited from the individualized therapy plan.

Most of our patients experience significant improvements in areas such as regaining mobility, strength, and confidence in their daily lives.

We are delighted to announce that the City of Mannheim has been honored with the Goerdeler Prize 2025 for its outstanding international cooperation - in particular for its humanitarian and medical support to the Ukrainian city of Chernivtsi and the Moldovan capital Chişinău.

A key aspect of the project was the renovation of a rehabilitation centre in Chernivtsi, which supports the local civilian population and war wounded with high-quality medical equipment sponsored by the city of Mannheim.

The team at Kliniken Schmieder Heidelberg is happy to have supported this cooperation with its contribution, a two day exchange between the experts from Kliniken Schmieder and the Ukrainian delegates in the field of neurological rehabilitation and in particular in depth insights into the Lyra device, which will be available to the centre in Chernivtsi.

The stage was bathed in the rhythm of the most beautiful melodies as the biggest stars of the Gulf region and the Arab world celebrated Abdullah Al-Ruwaished – an icon of Gulf singing since the 1980s.🥰

The most moving moment of the evening: Abdullah Al-Ruwaished's personal appearance – his first concert after his illness. After suffering a stroke in 2024, the artist spent six months in a hospital specialized for neurological diseases, Kliniken Schmieder Allensbach in Germany. Thanks to the personal and tailor-made treatment plan and his extraordinary will to recover, he managed this impressive comeback.🥳

His attending physician, Dr Olya Neumann, who also attended the concert, was particularly happy with his performance.✨

Our Success Story

The Kliniken Schmieder are one of the world leading Neurological Rehabilitation clinics with many medical experts. We treat neurological patients of all degrees of severity and in all stages of acute and rehabilitative recovery. We thus provide the complete chain of Neurological Rehabilitation one-stop, throughout all stages of the neurological phase model (Phase A to Phase F).

Our story began in 1950, when Prof. Dr. Friedrich Schmieder founded the first clinic in Gailingen on the High-Rhine. Nowadays, he is considered a pioneer and forerunner in the field of Neurological Rehabilitation. Early on, Prof. Schmieder was convinced that professional and intensive treatment, even a long time after the brain-injuring incident, could improve the neurological performance. His assumption turned out to be true, as modern neurological research proves.

Further clinics followed: Allensbach in 1974, Konstanz in 1994, in 1995 our day clinic in Stuttgart, 1998 Stuttgart-Gerlingen and 2001 in Heidelberg. Large extension buildings opened in Gerlingen in 2009 and 2011 in Heidelberg.

Since 1950 Kliniken Schmieder has been persistent in its goal of providing neurological patients with the best possible treatment. Annually, 1 800 employees in our six clinics (Gailingen, Allensbach, Konstanz, Stuttgart, Gerlingen, Heidelberg) all over Baden-Württemberg are treating over 14 000 neurological patients. The six different clinics are strongly interconnected, but offer different medical emphases.
