Everyone sees me as a doula who only attends natural unmedicated births. And while i attend them, they aren’t the only ones I attend. Sometimes moms will go in and expect to birth unmedicated and do everything and I mean everything in there power to reach that goal. But sometimes the sneaky maternal exhaustion sets in, moms vomiting and staying sick from pain, so snacking isn’t an option. Pain level is so bad that mom is tense and needs rest. So epidurals are needed at times like these. Bc it’s better to have sleep and relax and progress than to stay tense, and your body stop progressing and lead to C-section. You can absolutely get the epidural and need pitocin and still have a vaginal birth. And just bc you needed those things doesn’t mean that your body failed you or that you failed yourself or your baby bc that’s absolutely not true. Intervention is there when it’s needed. And that’s nothing to be ashamed of

So for the ones that think that I only serve the moms who have fast unmedicated labors, your mistaken. I also serve the moms during inductions that need extra support due to the artificial contractions, moms who get so exhausted from labor and need to epidurals to relax so they can progress. The ones that labor for days and end up in C-section unexpectedly and more. I don’t just support one type of labor, I support many!!

Sometimes birth support looks like mom taking a nap and me setting back to relax.

I get ask a lot about why I carry changes of clothes and Sandles in my birth bag. Well I carry a change of clothes bc sometimes labor has a way of being super unexpected and sometimes I end up staying longer, and sometimes I end up in the shower with water spraying on me or knee deep in a tub while I’m comforting mom with counter pressure, hip squeezes, water sips and emotional support. These things keep me from being uncomfortable or getting my tennis shoes wet or easy to take off at someone’s door in a hurry at a homebirth🩷

What is the risk of uterine rupture during a labor after two cesareans?

So often, we hear the risk is 0.9 - 1.8%. But that doesn’t tell the whole picture.

The truth is, those numbers are based on studies in which 49 - 65% of labors were induced or augmented.

As we know, induction and augmentation has been associated with increased uterine rupture rates.

So it’s quite likely that the risk of uterine rupture during a non-induced or augmented labor after two cesareans may be significantly lower.

This is why it’s so important to understand what the research says.

Sometimes vital pieces of information are lost as statistics are simplified and shared.

Happy international women's day!! Alot of the times I have to really remind myself how blessed I am to be a woman. I have carried and birthed 7 beautiful kids. At one time I carried two babies at once. And have several angels to meet when I get to heaven. Irises birth showed me how strong I am. 72hrs of labor and one amazing empowered birth. 4 csections and 2 vaginal births. I do not regret any choices I've made and have came to heal from any trauma. I look at my body as a gift, a miracle, a blessing. Now that I am done I continue to empower women the same way I was empowered. ❤️

If you’re pregnant and no one told you this yet…

Recommendations are not requirements.
Policies are not laws. And your body does not belong to the system.

Raw power, pure intensity and absolutely wild. When I met this amazing family they told be about there last birth and the trauma that came with it. She told me that she just wanted things to be different. The time she went into early labor lasted about a day and a half and boom as soon as active labor started her beautiful baby was in her arms earthside within an hr. Her birth was both fast and healing for her and her husband. I was all in my feels. Welcome to the world baby girl born on Dec 13th.
