In this picture I can show the ICA is used to enhance ERP analysis. The P300 is an event-related potential (ERP) that is elicited in the process of decision making. It's a measure of cognitive function and can be observed from scalp-recorded electroencephalography (EEG). The P300 wave occurs approximately 300 milliseconds post-stimulus, hence its name. The picture shows how ICA works in the ERP-Analyzer. ICA applied (using the IFEN ERP Analyzer) shows the P300 in the frontal regions which are associated with executive functions.
Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is a computational method used to separate a multivariate signal into additive subcomponents. In the context of EEG data analysis, ICA is employed to segregate true brain signals from noise (like eye movements or muscle activity).
When it comes to Evoked Potentials, both P300 and ICA play crucial roles. The P300 wave is a valuable indicator of cognitive processing and can provide insight into various aspects of brain function, such as attention, memory, and cognitive control.
ICA increases the accuracy of the results, leading to more reliable interpretations and conclusions, when used in ERPs. However it will distort phase and coherence. So we do not recommend it for Z-Scores and QEEG.
