Pulse Pilates is a family business established in 2010 and run by Sophie Richards and Evgeny Nikolaev. Here's a bit about them:
Sophie teaches private and group Pilates classes at Pulse Pilates. Sophie first came across Pilates aged seventeen whilst recovering from an ankle operation. The operation was at a crucial stage in her professional dance training but with the help of regular Pilates classes, she was able to return to school with a higher level of dance technique and body awareness than before. After more than 15 years of working as a dancer and a trapeze artist, Sophie completed the Stott Pilates matwork course at the Central YMCA in London 2009 and has been teaching Pilates in Berlin ever since. She has also taught Pilates for Cirque du Soleil, Wissenschaftkolleg zu Berlin, Dance Studio Berlin, VHS Kreuzberg and Hebamme Praxis Freudenwehe. Evgeny teaches private Pilates classes at Pulse Pilates. He first encountered Pilates after years of chronic lower back issues which were due to years of working in professional sport and later in circus. With careful Pilates training he was able to rehabilitate his spine and continue his circus career. Evgeny’s vast knowledge on body mechanics learned through years of professional gymnastics training gives his Pilates instruction a powerful edge. Evgeny first came across gymnastics at his local club. At the age of 14 he joined CSKA Moscow and competed internationally for the USSR and for his club CSKA until retiring from professional sport at 22. He then went on to perform as a circus artist specializing in high bar, wining silver medal at Monte Carlo International Circus Festival and working in ‘Mystere’ for Cirque du Soleil. As well as teaching Pilates, Evgeny continues to work as a circus artist, this time on Cyr Wheel, performing around the world for corporate events, festivals and circuses.
