Doula Jes Berlin

Doula Jes Berlin Jes is a DONA and Madriella trained doula who support families during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period throughout all of Berlin.

Jes's work as a doula empowers pregnant people and their families by providing emotional, informational, and physical support during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. She is trained by both DONA International and Madriella as a birth and postpartum doula, has completed workshops to help parents breastfeed successfully, trained in supporting LGBTQ* families during pregnancy and birth and has taken the Bay Area Doula Project’s abortion doula training. Jes understands that each client enters their birth differently and is committed to helping families feel fully supported – no matter their needs, wants or beliefs during this time. She believes in supporting pregnant people and their families with information to help walk them through each step to ensure they make the best birth choices for themselves. As your doula, Jes offers constant compassion, non-judgmental support, and warmth to the birthing process.

Hey folks, I've just finished up a new blogpost about babies with Colic and tips for supporting them. Newborn life is tough but with the addition of having a colicy baby it can seem like the days and nights are endless.
If you need urgent support with your mental health due to a colicy baby, please reach out the the Schreibaby Ambulanz Berlin.

As a doula, I have supported many newborns and their families, and a very common challenge that parents face is a baby with colic. Colic is a term used to describe excessive crying in an otherwise healthy baby. It usually begins around two to four weeks of age and can last up to four months. While t...

What will you need postpartum? Loads of pads, snacks, and nursing pads are definitely on the list. But what else will help you to feel nurtured and well? Some ideas that have helped my clients are: setting up a meal train with friends and family, hiring postpartum support (ie. Doula, home cleaning service, lactation counselor), having welcomed family come to visit and help out, preparing freezer meals in pregnancy to feed you later, and continuing focusing on mental health through therapy or speaking with trusted friends.

Self-care doesn't always mean face masks and yoga. It is such an individual act of kindness to yourself. For me, self-care can look like making my comfort food, watching youtube videos on tiny houses or making practical or dreamy lists. Ask yourself what your self care could be at the very end of your pregnancy when it seems like baby may not ever come. And also for after baby's arrival. What will you need then? Keep a list in a note on your phone or on the fridge to remind you to slow down, take the time for yourself, and show up to support your health too. I recommend new parents to schedule that self care time in once a day/week/month to ensure you are cared for.

Over the last few years I have offered overnight care as a special way to support new parents. Sleep is so important and it’s the most common challenge I see amongst the families I work with. It’s the area of life that can make a huge difference in the rest of your day and effect things like nursing, mental health, and the relationships you have.
I am now offering you overnight support for families this winter and spring. Get in touch if you’d like to chat more and see if it’s a good fit for your postpartum journey.

The last few weeks in pregnancy can be some of the toughest for pregnant parents. There is always so much to do in such little time, an unknown arrival date of the baby, and hormones, little sleep, and a heavy body all make the arrival of the little one truly desired. I always recommend to fill your time with the most self care you possibly can. Dates, movie marathons, delicious food, and rest. It’s a big time of transition so treat yourself with compassion and care. Huge things are happening and you are doing great.

Over the last months I’ve been working on a few new projects. One of them being re-branding my website! It’s been a lot of fun picking out colors, building new pages, and writing texts and offerings that fit me a lot better than the site I built a few years ago. I’m really excited to invite you to have a look around, get in touch, and get to know me and my work.

I’ve been wanting to say something here for a long time now, but it either hasn’t felt like the right timing, or that I should be taking up space on social media. I stand with Black Lives Matter and have been doing a lot of internal work as well as work on my business to integrate more anti-racist support over the last weeks. I am building a discussion group here in Berlin of local white birth workers to actively work on our internalized racism together. It feels like a big step for me in terms of accountability to a long term plan of questioning, working, messing up, and learning more. This feels like just the beginning.

What have been action steps of yours recently on working on racism in yourself or your community?

How can you rest just a bit more in your day? What would that look like for you? My days have been a big mix between energetic bursts filled with creativity and movement and then other days that feel that from when I wake up I have a deep need to lay low. For me it's been looking like reading (or listening to audio books), watching shows or movies, staring out my window, or receiving the physical touch of my partner. It’s been hard to give into rest most days because guilt of non-productivity but it feels really important to sit with myself, my needs, and feelings.
Plan some rest into your days. Make it happen. Your body will be grateful for it.
