what: is the origin of movement?
The main focus of this class series is to consciously explore & play with the origin of integrating body-mind-spirit. When we free the storehouse of our dynamic energy we are able to deeply attune to our sense of pleasure, ease, and innate resonance with the natural qualities all around us : as us.
We will dive into the principles of The Seki Method developed by the pioneering, third-generation butoh artist-choreographer-teacher, Minako Seki.
Here we begin to sense our power, feel our hanging body : water bag body, attune to our Tan Den, gather & focus our mind via meditation, and collectively harmonize via ritual practices.

NOTE: This class series does build upon every class. It is best to embark on the whole journey. However, our full lives and schedules may not allow for this, so come and play as you may.

Joan Gutierrez is a movement-based artist and collective energy alchemist from the Mexican-American borderland. Since 2016 she works with Zen & Butoh philosophy as fundamental foundations for the whole of their artistic-life and healing research. They employ pillars of transformation from diverse mediation, somatic, creation, and play practices to discover original movement and meaning-making by cultivating whole body awareness and heightened perceptions of sensing and feeling. Ultimately, with the intention to be an ever present, interconnected & consciously embodied being.
