💡Volocopter Goes to School.💡

15 Students from the United States Visit Volocopter.

Various automobile manufacturers and Volocopter are opening their production facilities. The goal is to provide students from the United States with insights into the world of mobility. It was a great honor and pleasure for us to open our hangar doors in Bruchsal for 15 students and 3 teachers.

The students' visit is part of a two-week educational trip to Germany and Sweden, organized by the renowned company Putney Student Travel. The educational trip aims to convey the history of the mobility industry and its current technological developments in an exciting and practical way.

Electric and autonomous driving, automobile design and automation, new mobility concepts, and urban planning are the focus of the excursion. Volocopter, as a pioneer in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and a leading manufacturer of electric air taxis in Europe, was a must-see. Deep insights, exciting discussions, and lots of fun made the almost four-hour visit fly by.

Since that pivotal moment, our dedicated team has relentlessly pushed the boundaries of innovation across all aircraft subsystems. From flight control and avionics to electrical propulsion systems and aerodynamics, every advancement is crafted to meet the highest safety standards in aviation.

As of May 2025, we are proud to have secured 112 granted patents across 74 patent families, with scope of protection in key countries including Germany, France, the UK, the USA, and China. Plus, we’re excited to have over 80 more pending patent applications in the pipeline!

At Volocopter, safety and reliability are our top priorities, and our Iron Bird setup is essential in achieving these goals.

The Iron Bird is a sophisticated ground-based test rig that simulates the VoloCity system. It enables us to rigorously test and validate the integration and functionality of various systems, including avionics, flight controls, and electrical systems before they take to the skies.

The Iron Bird will be a valuable asset for our certification roadmap with key capabilities including:

• Comprehensive System Integration: Ensure seamless interaction between all components.
• Early Issue Detection: Identify and resolve potential problems during the development phase.
• Data-Driven Insights: Provide valuable data to enhance system performance and safety.
• Continuous Improvement: Facilitate iterative testing and refinement of components and systems.
• Enhancing safety: Ensure that systems and the overall aircraft continue to operate safely in unlikely events of component failures.

🌞 Spring has been delightful this year! Recently, we enjoyed several beautiful, sunny days perfect for testing.

With maximum wind gusts of 20 knots and warm temperatures, our team is diligently working to validate our aircraft systems. The team collected multiple data points during the test flight, building up speeds between 44 to 55 knots at low altitudes. The test data gathered is vital to validate functionality and safe operations.

Exciting news!

Thanks to Diamond Aircraft Industries, the is back in the air, and the Volocopter journey is soaring forward as our fantastic team resumes operations, propelling our mission for sustainable urban air mobility!

Last week, VoloCity took to the skies again. On a bright, sunny day, the flight test team ran through standard VHF testing procedures with our test pilot, Olivier Renard, diligently advancing our test campaign for EASA type certification.

Another key milestone: unlocked!

We successfully conducted a Flight Control Computer (FCC) reversion test campaign, intentionally turning off our primary flight control computers during hover and in cruise flight.

Though a highly improbable scenario in real life, we ran the test to ensure the backup flight control computer seamlessly takes over and maintains control of our aircraft—ensuring safety of flight in compliance with EASA’s certification standards.

Volocopter is pleased to announce a long-term partnership agreement with Jet Systems Hélicoptères Services to bring aircraft services to France.

Each company will contribute its product, maintenance, infrastructure, and digital fleet management expertise while securing personnel and liaising with cities and infrastructure partners to ensure smooth operations. The agreement includes the initial delivery of two aircraft once certified by EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency.

Volocopter successfully completed multiple flight test milestones within this past week!

👇 Here's an overview of our achievements, which are key to enhancing capabilities.

𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Our VoloCity gradually upped the speed from hover to a 54-knot airspeed (~100 km/h or 62 mph) and then stepped to 60 knots (~111km/h or 69mph) VD airspeed. For non-aviation experts, VD is a critical airspeed limitation defined to ensure the structural integrity of aircraft during high-speed flight conditions such as dives.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱: Proving significant high-speed directional stability and zero initial concerns after engineering analysis.

𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀: Completed four high-speed single-motor failure test points at 45-55 knots (~83 - 101 km/h or 51 - 63 mph) to ensure the aircraft performs as expected in improbable motor failure scenarios.

𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀: Concluding our testing streak with a high-speed double motor failure test points at up to 48 knots (~89 km/h or 55 mph), another big step toward clearing the motor failure testing envelope.
