Embitterment Conference

Embitterment Conference International Association for Embitterment Studies Embitterment is an emotion which is known to everybody, in reaction to humiliation or injustice. J. L. Noack,

Embitterment can become a crippling emotion, very similar to anxiety. Pathological forms of embitterment are seen in the form of “posttraumatic embitterment disorders, PTED” (similar to PTSD), particularly in embitterment prone personalities or as symptom in other mental disorders like paranoid or narcissistic personalities. Intense embitterment can become chronic and disabling. Patients often rej

ect help, as they want the world to see, what has been done to them. Such patients show a variety of additional symptoms like deteriorated mood, multiple psychosomatic complaints, and suicidal ideation. Patients loose control of their emotions and behavior. Aggression towards the world including murder-su***de has been described. Embitterment disorders are known to all clinicians and are seen regularly in the context of sociomedical expertising, marital counseling, or bullying at work. The emotion embitterment can also have societal and even political bearing, as whole populations can react in embitterment to humiliation and injustice. Although described already by Aristotle in ancient times, embitterment has for long been neglected in psychiatry and psychotherapy. In recent years, research has revealed important new evidence regarding the frequency, impact on manifestation and course of psychiatric diseases and therapeutic intervention of embitterment. The 3rd International Conference on Embitterment and Mental Health will convene researchers from all over the world. This is the most important event to promote and exchange upfront research on embitterment and related topics. It is a great opportunity to meet colleagues, get information on new developments, and build cooperations. Topics in relation to embitterment include:
