New Yarrrrrn , woohoo! 🥳

Today we present to you a very special and very limited lace yarn. It’s a fantastic pure Angora yarn from happy German Angora rabbits. 🐰
It’s sourced cruelty-free, spun in small German mills and hand dyed by us.

The bunnies live outside in roofed compounds with lots of space to hop around. Every 3-4 months their long silky fur is carefully cut with scissors as to not harm their skin (no shearing machine is used).

Angora fibre is a wonderful and rare material. Its hollow core makes it even warmer than wool. It's breathable, light as a feather and incredibly soft and fluffy.
This particular yarn base is quite tightly spun in order to make it strong with a great stitch definition. Initially the skeins aren't very fluffy (they even feel a bit rough). But the yarn will fluff up beautifully into its typical halo once you work with it.

Neues Gaaaaarn , juhuu! 🥳

Heute haben wir ein ganz besonderes und streng limitiertes Lacegarn für euch. Es ist ein fantastisches, reines Angoragarn von glücklichen deutschen Angorakaninchen. 🐰
Es wird ohne Tierquälerei gewonnen, in kleinen deutschen Spinnereien versponnen und von uns handgefärbt.

Die Angorakaninchen leben in überdachten Außengehegen mit viel Platz zum Rumhoppeln. Alle 3-4 Monate wird ihr langes, seidiges Fell vorsichtig mit einer Schere geschnitten (es kommen keine Schermaschinen zum Einsatz, die die Tiere verängstigen oder verletzen würden).

Angora ist ein faszinierendes und seltenes Material. Die Fasern haben einen hohlen Kern, der das Garn sogar noch wärmer als Wolle macht. Es ist leicht wie eine Feder, atmungsaktiv und unglaublich weich und flauschig.
Das Garn hat durch seine feste Verspinnung eine tolle Maschendefinition. Im Strang fühlt es sich dadurch initial nicht sehr flauschig an (sogar fast ein bisschen rauh). Sobald es aber verarbeitet wird, flufft es wunderbar auf und bekommt seine typische weiche Flauschigkeit.

Colour of the week: It’s time for some RED!!!
Overripe raspberry, Hot desire, Blood queen, Fury (in the slaughterhouse) and Rotten strawberry candy

This week we've picked our wonderful variety of rich reds.
Overripe raspberry is a cool bluish red and Fury (in the slaughterhouse) is a warm, rusty red. Hot desire and Blood queen are right in the middle and neither very warm nor very cool. Rotten strawberry candy is the brightest of all.

DyeForYarn - home of colors

In our "old life" we were scientists for biology and molecular medicine at University Erlangen-Nuremberg. As science itself is a rather unsatisfying business we started knitting lace shawls in our free time, which soon lead to a need for lighter weight yarns. At that time we weren't able to find any solid silk lace yarns in Germany so we decided to try dyeing them ourselves. A new hobby was born that soon became a passion. After a while we were producing so many new skeins that we thought of selling them on Etsy. In the beginning of 2010 Cordula opened the first Etsy shop DyeForYarn, where we still sell our silky yarn bases. In October 2010 Nicole opened the second Etsy shop, DyeForWool, where you can find our woolly yarn bases. In the first year both of our shops grew and we added many new yarn bases. After 18 months of hard work and a lot of fun the scope of production became so large that we decided to quit our day job and start our own business with a brick and mortar shop. On 26th of November 2011 we opened our brick and mortar shop in Fuerth, near Nuremberg, where we still dye and sell our yarns.
