Coming off my 2nd bout of COVID this year, I'm out of breath, stiff and impatient to feel fit again.
Especially in post-partum classes, women will say “Wow, I’m so out of shape!” or “I used to be able to do planks! Where did my strength go?”

Of course, in yoga, there's something in Sanskrit about that: 'Santosha' describes the practice of Contentment. Being okay with what we have. I’m noticing, today, it is indeed a PRACTICE-- Not something we h a v e, but something we cultivate.

We can be too busy growing or sustaining another human being to finish a presentation, or the dishes; We can be too sick to get off the couch. No matter what: Taking a moment to appreciate --as we sometimes say at the end of class, "the health and happiness we have at this very moment” --can not only restore our patience, but make things seem like they're just like they ought to be.

Pregnant women and new mothers are under enormous social pressure to do everything the best way, to be informed, to know everything ahead of time --for the baby.
Most pregnant women and mothers do little else.

My perinatal yoga classes are all about the mother and HER health, HER well-being, HER head and heart.

Yoga isn't for everyone. The beautiful thing is, you don't have to 'be into it' for it to work, for it to do you good almost immediately. If it's all you can manage to get to a yoga class, you'll probably be glad you did.

Pack up your little cutie, wear comfy clothes and come as you are! We'll roll around, move, mend ab split and lose that wobbly post-baby feeling in this playful class. Babies' development leaps, they LOVE the bonding and the action, and they sleep like angels afterwards. For babies 8 weeks to just before crawling! Your body and your heart will thank you.

Classes at the FGZN are city-supported, so the rates are an excellent value! PLUS -- safe, dry pram-parking is available! What are you waiting for?

As we look for ways to feel better about humanity, whether it’s making a donation or showing up for what you believe in, let’s remember that we can only give what we, ourselves, have got.
Are we doing anything to feed aggression within ourselves? How can we practice compassion, non-violence and openness?

The way we talk to ourselves on the mat is the way we talk to ourselves in life. Let’s cultivate a kind, inner voice as we move, breathe and make shapes in our asana practice. Deep belly-breathing brings in lightness, revives our sense of humor and clears the lungs and the throat.
When we grow humility and kindness in ourselves, we have a little more to give. Then we can keep going out and make a difference.

One of the ways to accomplish this in asana practice is exploring backbends. In English the phrase ‘bending over backwards’ is a metaphor for great effort, going to extra length, making oneself
vulnerable and at-risk in order to achieve something.
Bending over backwards can be easier than that! It can be as simple as lifting the chest and looking up. A backbend doesn’t have to be extreme nor require sacrifice to aid your posture and your outlook.
In the course of one well-rounded yoga class, we perform several gentle backbends!

In tonight's Postnatal Yoga class online, we'll stabilise the pelvis and explore the backbends that work for YOUR body. This gently stretches the shoulders, ribcage and chest and relieving tightness in the low back. A happy side-effect is the spaciousness we gain, along with a spreading sense of calm. Join us!

We often lose ourselves in the chaos of new parenting, but there’s that part of us --our “bliss body”, or Anandamaya Kosha--where contentment and delight live.
