Support your practice with deeper understanding.

In Kundalini Yoga Therapy, we work with the body as a vehicle for healing, awareness, and transformation. These two featured texts offer powerful insights into how structure and connection shape movement and experience—from muscles to fascia, and from form to flow.

✨ The Key Muscles of Yoga – explore how the body supports each posture
✨ Yoga: Fascia, Anatomy and Movement – discover the body as an interconnected system

Together, they bridge science and intuition—helping you refine your teaching, support your clients, and deepen your own embodied awareness.

Explore both titles and bring new depth to your practice.

We’re continuing to celebrate 40 years of Therapeutic Kundalini Yoga by sharing the story of how it all began—and the powerful teaching insights that grew from those early days.

From a first class in a mental health unit in the 1970s to working with students during the height of the AIDS crisis, this journey revealed something profound:

✨ Teach to the person, not the diagnosis
✨ Recovery requires a different approach than prevention
✨ Meet students where they are—and build from there

These simple yet transformative principles became the foundation of Therapeutic Kundalini Yoga—and continue to support healing across a wide range of conditions today.

Groundbreaking Research in Kundalini Yoga Therapy 🌍

We’re honored to share that the Guru Ram Das Center team is part of a world-first research study exploring the impact of trauma-responsive Kundalini Yoga for survivors of sexual violence.

Faculty member Siri Bhagvati (Billie Atherstone) joins an international team of leaders in trauma recovery and mind-body medicine—including Dr. Sat Bir Singh Khalsa (Harvard Medical School) and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, author of The Body Keeps the Score.

This NHMRC-funded initiative, known as the MANTRA Study (Measuring the Benefits of Trauma-Responsive Yoga), launches in May and will compare two 12-week group programs:
✨ Trauma Responsive Yoga (TSY)
✨ Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

By examining these approaches side by side, the study aims to generate high-quality evidence to inform future care, expand treatment options, and support survivor choice.

We’re proud to contribute to research that bridges ancient practice with modern science—bringing healing, evidence, and hope to those who need it most.

Celebrating 40 years of Therapeutic Kundalini Yoga
Reflecting back and looking forward by Shanti Shanti Kaur

🎉 2026 brings a huge celebration for us. 🎉

This year marks the 40th anniversary since the first therapeutic Kundalini Yoga class was held!

That first course was called Immune Fitness – very fitting for 1986 Los Angeles, where fitness was the rave – and improving immune function was a crucial need for the tens of thousands in the LA area who tested positive for HIV, and those living with AIDS.

I’ve dedicated the past 40 years to sharing the subtle and profound methods of therapeutic Kundalini Yoga because I believe, with everything in me, that this approach has the power to heal, uplift, transform, and transcend human suffering.

These early years challenged me in ways I can scarcely describe. Yet everything I learned during the nine years of teaching therapeutic Kundalini Yoga to the HIV community evolved into what we have today:

🔸 A therapeutic yogic skill set that is unique to Kundalini Yoga therapy

🔸 Twenty-two courses that comprise the International Kundalini Yoga Therapy Professional Training

🔸 An extraordinary international faculty dedicated to nurture the talents of those we train

🔸 Thousands of Kundalini Yoga teachers throughout the world who have the therapeutic skills, tools, and consciousness to serve and uplift in any situation

🌱Together with the community of Kundalini Yoga teachers and yoga therapists, researchers and supporters, this is now our shared legacy.

✨ Our purpose in 2026 is to be more audacious than ever as we continue to step up in situations and circumstances where Kundalini Yoga has not been seen before - reaching those who need therapeutic yoga the most, with care and resilience - and meeting those we serve right where they are.

🎉Celebrate with us throughout this year as we share more of our story - obstacles overcome, milestones achieved, and what's next.
