At its core, your cycle has 2 main phases:🔸 Follicular phase (before ovulation): This is when your body preps for ovulation, with hormone levels gradually rising.🔸 Luteal phase (after ovulation): Your body is either supporting a potential pregnancy or preparing for your next period.
The 2 main events are:
🌑 Period (menstruation): Shedding your uterine lining when no pregnancy occurs.
🌕 Ovulation: When an egg is released, marking the shift between the follicular and luteal phases, and the only possible time for conception to take place
There’s a lot of talk about cycle syncing, and you’ve probably seen metaphors comparing your cycle to:
🌱 The seasons (e.g., spring = pre-ovulation, summer = ovulation, autumn = luteal, winter = menstruation).
🌙 The moon phases (e.g., new moon = menstruation, full moon = ovulation).
♾ The life-death-rebirth cycle (e.g., menstruation = death/rebirth, ovulation = creation).
These metaphors can be beautiful and helpful tools to connect with your body. But here’s the thing: you are the expert on your body, not the metaphor. If these ideas resonate with you and help you understand your cycle better, that’s amazing! If they don’t feel right or don’t align with how you experience your body, that’s perfectly okay, too. Your cycle is your own unique rhythm, there’s no “right” or “wrong” way to experience it.
When you practice cycle syncing, the most important thing is tuning into your own sensations, energy levels, and needs. You might feel wildly creative during ovulation or totally burned out and introverted. You might crave rest during your period - or feel a surprising surge of productivity. Both are valid.
So, while metaphors and tools are helpful, remember: your body is your best guide. Listen to it, honor it, and work with what feels true for YOU.
