In Ukraine, 12- year- olds have an average of 4.4 bad permanent teeth and in Ecuador 3.3 bad permanent teeth in their mouths. Just imagine how much 4 bad teeth hurt! Unfortunately and in contrast to many other countries, there is no national program to prevent bad oral health in Ukraine and Ecuador. Our project approaches this problem by offering an early on, hands on education process to the pupils, so that bad teeth can be avoided. Our Project
The Share Health! Initiative produced an information video with primary school pupils from Oberkessach, Germany, in which the children explain why oral health care is important and how it should be put into effect. The video will be translated into Ukrainian and Russian and send to the Zmiev orphanage just outside the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine, as well as translated into Spanish and send to the Childrens Center "Gotitas de Luz" in Quito, Ecuador. The success of our project is not only based on the information we provide the Ukrainian and Ecuadorian pupils with, but also on the peer education process we employ. We hope the lasting relationship between the children will create an incentive to take oral hygiene seriously and to care for one’s teeth regularly. Moreover, we provide the opportunity for the Ukrainian and Ecuadorian pupils to put their newly acquired knowledge into action and to learn the skills to keep their teeth healthy. We will equip the children with a start- up- kit, containing toothpaste, a toothbrush and additional training and information material to ensure the lasting effect of the project. Your Impact
We are happy to pass on your donations in oral health care products to the children. Your Ukrainian or Spanish skills can help us facilitate the communication between the German, Ukrainian and Ecuadorian pupils. With your donations, we can produce a video of higher quality and provide more information and training material.
