Quick question: How many of you find yourselves replaying that ONE critical comment while forgetting the 10 compliments?

That's our negativity bias at work. It kept our ancestors alive, but in modern life, it can make us miserable.

Feb 26 - March 26 I'm running my meditation course on the negativity bias again - exploring gratitude, loving-kindness, community building, and more. Both in-person in Berlin and online.

Just be grateful' isn't the answer.
Gratitude ≠ Toxic Positivity
Toxic positivity says: suppress the negative, only acknowledge the good, pretend everything's fine.
Gratitude practice says: acknowledge ALL of it - the difficult AND the good - while consciously noticing what nourishes us.
The negativity bias means our brains naturally spotlight the negative. Gratitude isn't about denying this - it's about creating intentional balance.
Not forced happiness. Not spiritual bypassing. Just... noticing what often goes unseen.
Ready to explore this with curiosity instead of judgment?
Our meditation course 'Exploring the Negativity Bias' starts soon.

Relationship researcher John Gottman discovered something fascinating: thriving relationships need a 5:1 ratio.
5 positive interactions for every 1 negative.
Not 1:1. Not even 2:1. Five to one.
Why? The negativity bias means our brains give negative experiences more weight, more attention, more staying power.
This isn't just about relationships - it applies to how we relate to ourselves, our work, our daily experiences.
What if instead of battling this bias, we learned to understand it?
Join us for 'Exploring the Negativity Bias' - a meditation course that helps you work WITH your mind's natural patterns.

1 ≠ 1 when it comes to our brain.
One negative experience can outweigh multiple positive ones. Not because we're broken, but because our brains evolved to prioritize threats over rewards.
This is the negativity bias - and it's why:

One criticism stings harder than ten compliments soothe
We replay embarrassing moments more than proud ones
Bad news grabs our attention faster than good

Understanding this bias isn't about forcing positivity. It's about recognizing why negativity feels so heavy - and learning to work with our minds, not against them.

Wishing you all a happy new year!

My grandma used to knit my mittens too big so they’d still fit me when I grew.I’d wear them and look like what I wasn’t yet.I feel that sometimes when I’m writing poems.Like they don’t yet fit.
