Our nervous system is made of the parasympathetic and sympathetic part. We need both. Most of us spend too much time in the sympathetic state and that can cause health issues. Practicing Restorative Yoga can help to balance the two parts and healing can occur.

Why do we cover the eyes in Restorative Yoga?

When practicing Restorative Yoga we consciously manipulate the nervous system to create a state of relaxation in the body,.

The nervous system responds through the eyes to light, that’s why we wake up when the sun rises. Covering the eyes is a way to prevent any light from falling on the eyes reducing the external stimulation providing deep relaxation.

3-blanket backbend

Sometimes my body craves a deeper backbend. That feeling of open stillness is simply incredible.

The pose was part of the following seuence: Wall supported standing side bend, followed by dog pose with the wall into 2-blanket backbend, 3-blanket backbend. Followed by a few gentle windshield wiper legs and ended for 20 minutes in my current favorite Savasana: Stonehenge.

Supported Bridge Pose

Whenever my back bothers me I practice this pose with my smaller yin yoga bolsters and a blanket on top instead my round yoga bolster. In addition I wrap a strap above my ankles and allow my heels slightly to drop of.

I love this pose for many reasons. The main reason currently is to open the abdomen area to soothe my menopause symptons.

It also excellent for
● fatigue and jet lag
● might help with digestion
● quiets the minds
● allows deeper breathing

I love to.practice 1-blanket backbend • supported bridge pose • stonehenge savasana ♡♡♡

#3 It improves my yoga practice.
#4 Helps me to move more freely.
#5 Strengthens my body.
