Here are some of the benefits that come along with Postpartum Doula care:
💫Improved maternal mental health: A comprehensive analysis conducted on 27 different studies has shed light on the positive impact of postpartum doula support on maternal mental health. This review and a thorough meta-analysis found a consistent connection between postpartum doula assistance and improved outcomes for new mothers, particularly in alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety. Postpartum doula support was linked to enhanced overall adjustment to parenthood. This included increased satisfaction with the postpartum experience and improved relationships with partners.
💫Increased parental confidence: A study published in the Journal of Perinatal Education unveiled interesting findings regarding the impact of postpartum doula support on parental confidence. The research revealed that parents who received assistance from a postpartum doula reported experiencing a significant increase in their confidence levels when it came to parenting skills and caring for their newborns.
💫Increased rest and response: A research study conducted in 2020 found that mothers who slept more during the first 18 weeks of their baby’s life showed greater responsiveness toward their infants. The study emphasized the importance of rest in improving a mother’s ability to understand and meet her baby’s needs. This discovery emphasizes the importance of postpartum doula overnight support in maximizing maternal sleep and ultimately enhancing the overall caregiving experience.

✨Reduced rate of induction of labour.
✨Shorter labour.
✨Increased parental satisfaction with the birth experience.

I was talking with a friend after she had her baby, we were discussing how doulas can help during childbirth and she said she chose not to have one because she wanted to get an epidural and doulas are all about medication-free, physiological birth. I was quite surprised of what I just heard. Let me explain, doulas will empower you to have a physiological birth if that is what YOU want. If you want to get an epidural, she will be there judgment-free to support while you labour with the epidural.

All doulas want is to make sure you know your options and rights, and that you aren’t coerced into medication or intervention if you don’t want it. A doula will not be telling you what to do or not do. In fact, she won’t even give you advice. What she will be giving is information and support to empower you to take an informed decision that suits YOU and YOUR baby specifically.

If you find yourself with a doula who is trying to impose her views and opinions, consider choosing someone else who will empower you and your choices.

Doulas are relatively new as a concept, although the role itself is ancient. The term Doula comes from Greek and it means “a woman who serves”:
"𝘈𝘴𝘬 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘪𝘷𝘦. 𝘈 𝘥𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘢 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘴: 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯 𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭, 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦, 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘥."

A... Doula? What's that? 🤨

I get asked this question a lot! And I truly believe that we need to raise awareness about Doulas and add some clarity to what this work means.

But first I'll tell you about some things that happened in my life recently.
2023 brought lots of big changes for me - I moved to a new country, started learning a new language and started working as a Birth and Postnatal Doula. And the new country comes with meeting new people. And when they ask what I do, I get lots of puzzled faces.
Don’t get me wrong, puzzled faces aren’t something new to me, I’ve been an expat for some years now, and one of the first questions I'm asked when meeting people is where I come from. While most people have at least heard about Moldova (this is where I come from), there are still some who can’t picture it on the map. But telling people I work as a Doula is something else! From my experience, I’d say about 70-80% haven’t even heard the word before, let alone know what it means, or why Doulas can be helpful.

Check out the carousel for some info. And stay tuned for more to come!

Who are Doulas and why would you hire one? I get asked this question a lot! And I truly believe that we need to raise awareness about Doulas and add some clarity to what this work means.

In the next few days I'll share what you need to know about us, how we can help in your parenting journey, and why you need to spread the WORD so everyone knows that this support is available to them.

Did you ever wonder why would a family choose to have the support of a doula? To start with, a doula:
💥Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a person in labour.
💥Assists with preparation and planning of birth and the postpartum period.
💥Provides emotional and physical support, and an objective viewpoint and assistance during the perinatal period.
💥Stays by the side of the labouring person throughout the entire labour.
💥Facilitates communication between the birthing person, the partner and clinical staff.
💥The support of postnatal doula can help reduce the risk of postnatal depression and anxiety.
💥And more!

There is a doula out there that suits the needs of family. When choosing one, make sure she has the knowledge and experience you're after, but also make sure you have the right chemistry. Because she will with you at your most vulnerable and precious time!

Birth is one of the most sacred and profound rites of passage in human life. It is the moment when a new life is brought into the world, marking the beginning of a journey filled with growth and transformation.

From the moment of conception through the postnatal period, the process of birth is a powerful and transformative experience for both the parents and the baby. In many cultures, birth is celebrated as a sacred and holy event, marked by rituals and traditions that honour the mother, the child, and the process of creation. From the Jewish Brit Milah to the Hindu Namkaran ceremony, these rites of passage serve as a reminder of the sacredness of life, and the importance of honouring and nurturing the new life that has come into the world.

For the birthing person, birth is a journey of physical and emotional transformation. The process of pregnancy, labour, and delivery requires immense strength, courage, and endurance. It demands that the birther confront her fears, doubts, and limitations, and taps into their inner reserves of resilience and determination. Through the pain, the joy, and the intensity of childbirth, the birther discovers a new level of strength and power within oneself, and emerges from the experience transformed and renewed.

For the baby, birth is the ultimate initiation into the world. It is a moment of intense vulnerability and exposure, as the infant is thrust from the safety and comfort of the womb into the unknown and unpredictable realm of existence. The act of being born represents a profound shift in the baby’s consciousness, as they transition from the cocoon got used to, to the vastness of the world around them. It is a moment of immense potential, as the baby begins to explore the world and discover their own unique path and purpose.

Birth is a moment of immense potential, as the parents and baby embark on a journey of growth, discovery, and transformation. Whether through rituals, traditions, or simply through the act of giving birth itself, we can honour this sacred moment, and recognize its profound significance.

Expecting or raising a baby is one of the most fulfilling experiences you will have in a lifetime, but it can also prove challenging and overwhelming. A doula can provide the right support to make this adventure a positive one.

I believe that everyone has the right to enter parenthood in a way that nurtures them, makes them feel secure, and honours their goals at every step, regardless if they are new to parenthood or have walked on this journey before.

My wish for YOU is to enter this next stage of your life with confidence in what lies ahead.

You will remember the birth of your child for the rest of your life, so why not plan and make this experience as good as it can be!
