✨ Birth Autonomy: Reclaiming Our Power ✨
Every time I step into a hospital, I see it again. A woman, strong and capable, surrendering—not to the power within her—but to authority figures in white coats. It’s not unusual, yet it always surprises me. We nod, we comply, we let them touch us, direct us, decide for us. But why?
History has shown us the horror of what happens when women don’t have full autonomy in birth. There was a time when twilight sleep was forced upon women, leaving them thrashing in restraint while doctors delivered their babies. A time when husbands made medical decisions from a distance, and women were told they were too fragile, too emotional, too irrational to know what was best for their own bodies.
And now? It’s more subtle. It looks like “standard procedure.” A hand on your cervix without consent. A doctor’s voice dripping with fear tactics. A machine dictating your movement—or lack of it. It’s normal. But that doesn’t mean it’s right.
The truth is, autonomy in birth isn’t just about choice—it’s about mental health. Those who move freely, who are allowed to trust their instincts and set boundaries, have a decreased risk of postpartum depression. They birth in power, not in fear.
If you've ever been touched in a way that made you freeze—where your body said no, but the world around you expected yes—you know exactly what I mean. This is why education matters, to make educated choices. It’s why we must stay conscious of who we let touch us, what we allow into our space, and how we reclaim our right to birth in full sovereignty.
Surrender—not to authority, but to the raw, untamed power of nature within you. 🌿✨
