Wer in Deutschland aufgewachsen ist, kennt die Frage: "Aber wie konnte das passieren? Warum habt ihr nichts getan, als das größte aller Unrechte in der Mitte der Gesellschaft geschah?"
"Wir wussten es nicht", war die Antwort. Und das war schon als Kind schwer zu verstehen. Wie kann man nicht wissen, was vor deinen Augen geschieht? Wir leben in schwierigen Zeiten, und ich gebe zu, nur sehr begrenzte Kenntnis von Motiven und Hintergründen zu haben, auch wenn ich seit jeher versuche, das politische Geschehen so aufmerksam, umfassend, neutral und von allen möglichen Seiten zu betrachten.
Doch nun ist offensichtlich: Wir wissen nicht, was geschieht, weil wir es nicht wissen wollen. Weil wir unsere Verantwortung abgegeben haben. An die Instanzen der moralischen Führung, denen wir nun unter allen Umständen (Staatsräson nennt man das heute, oder früher Treue und Gehorsam) und ohne zu Hinterfragen folgen.
Dieses Schema sahen wir in der Corona-Zeit - bis heute sind die braven Folgsamen nicht imstande zu reflektieren, ob es angemessen war, Menschen zu zensieren, auszugrenzen und notfalls mit dem Wasserwerfer wegzufegen, die für Meinungsfreiheit eintraten, wie im Grundgesetz verankert, und so vieles mehr. Sie sehen es tatsächlich nicht, denn dazu bräuchte es die Fähigkeit, einmal Gelerntes als relativ zu verstehen und Fehler bei der eigenen Erkenntnisfähigkeit zu erkennen - das wiederum ist eine psychologische Paradoxie, und da kommen wir schwer weiter, denn wenn das Erkennen nicht funktioniert, wie erkennen, wenn es nicht funktioniert? Daher sagt man, dass ein falsches System nie von innen erkennbar ist.
Dieses Schema sehen wir im Ukraine-Konflikt, in dem es kein anderes Narrativ geben darf als das von der NATO kommunizierte. Wir sollen und wollen nicht wissen. Nordstream - oh je, lieber nicht lesen. NATO-Osterweiterung sowie alles Geschehen vor 2022 - nicht relevant. Nur Putin-Versteher fragen da nach. Der gute Bürger folgt fraglos.
Und auch heute wissen wir nicht, denn wir fragen nicht und wir wollen auch nicht. Denn Wissen ist Verantwortung.
Doch: Wir sollten uns damit befassen, was dazu führte, dass in Israel am 07.10. Menschen anderen Menschen Entsetzliches antaten und bis heute antun. Wir sollten genau recherchieren, Zeitachsen, Motive, Hintergründe. Vielleicht aus vielen Quellen mit unterschiedlichsten kulturellen, sprachlichen, religiösen Unterschieden und Interpretationen. Wir sollen verstehen lernen, welche Umstände zu Konflikten führen und wie diese lösbar wären. Wir sollten aber sicher auch lange damit warten, voreilige Schlüsse zu ziehen oder Partei zu ergreifen und natürlich jegliche Gewalt verurteilen - egal mit welcher Rechtfertigung sie daherkommt.
Es sollte im Selbstverständnis des Menschen liegen, Gewalt zu verurteilen und Handlungsräume zu schaffen, in denen wir mit Dialog und Menschlichkeit Lösungen finden.
Und natürlich Solidarität mit allen Opfern jeglicher Unterdrückung und Aggression. Menschen, Kinder auf allen Seiten, die seit Monaten Unfassbares erleiden.
Die Einseitigkeit der Solidarität als Staatsräson, der dekontextualisierte Sprachgebrauch der Leitmedien, das ständige Gaslighting, die Diffamierung alternativer Stimmen, die Einforderung rational nicht nachvollziehbarer Parteinahme seitens der Politik mit gleichzeitiger Zensur und Diskreditierung von Menschen, die sich für eine differenzierte Auseinandersetzung einsetzen - all das macht blind. Und während die ständige Echokammer vielleicht den Populisten und Demagogen in die Hände spielt, sind wir wieder soweit, zu übersehen, was vor unserer Haustür tatsächlich passiert. Wer will sich schon mit der Realität von nun über 14.000 Toten unter 14 Jahren befassen, oder was das individuelle Leid von fast 2 Millionen Menschen auf der Flucht eigentlich bedeutet oder wie es sich anfühlen muss, Monate in der Gewalt von Verbrechern und Mördern gefangen zu sein?
Wenn ein Konflikt in deutschen Medien fast ausschließlich von den Informationen der Pressevertreter des Militärs einer Partei analysiert und kommentiert wird (und das mit Sicherheit nicht das gesamte, in diesem Fall das israelische, Volk und dessen Einschätzung repräsentiert), darf man kurz innehalten. Was wir nun seit Jahren von der 4. Gewalt in Deutschland bekommen, ist Kriegspropaganda. Ich frage mich, warum das so wenige sehen oder sehen wollen. Der Ton hat sich gewandelt und die Sprache auch. Wir reiben uns nicht einmal daran, sondern klatschen, wenn "Die Zeit"-Autoren sagen, dass die Kriegstüchtigkeit der nächsten Generation ein Staatsziel sein muss.
Aus gegebenem Anlass las ich letztens nach vielen Jahren wieder im Buch "Panther im Keller" von dem israelischen Autor Amos Oz. Passt zur Zeit. Das menschliche Ringen wird immer sein - doch irgendwo gibt es ein Licht. Das sollten wir wissen und die Augen, Ohren offen halten und unsere Stimme und Sprache, unsere Dialog- und Diplomatiefähigkeit auch.

Those who grew up in Germany know the question: "But how could that happen? Why didn't you do anything when the greatest of all injustices occurred in the midst of society?"
"We didn't know," was the answer. And even as a child, that was hard to understand. How can you not know what is happening right before your eyes? We live in difficult times, and I admit to having only very limited knowledge of motives and backgrounds, even though I have always tried to view political events as attentively, comprehensively, neutrally, and from all possible angles.
But now it is obvious: We do not know what is happening because we do not want to know. Because we have relinquished our responsibility. To the authorities of moral leadership, to whom we now follow under all circumstances (this is called raison d'état today, or loyalty and obedience in the past) and without questioning.
We saw this pattern during the Corona times - until today, the obedient ones are unable to reflect on whether it was appropriate to censor, exclude, and even use water cannons on those who stood up for freedom of speech, as enshrined in the Basic Law, and much more. They truly do not see it, because it would require the ability to understand what has been learned as relative and to recognize errors in one's own capacity for understanding - which in turn is a psychological paradox, and that's where we struggle to move forward because if recognition does not function, how do we recognize when it does not? Hence, it is said that a false system is never recognizable from within.
We see this pattern in the Ukraine conflict, where no other narrative is allowed than the one communicated by NATO. We are not supposed to know or want to know. Nord Stream - oh dear, better not read. NATO expansion to the East and everything that happened before 2022 - not relevant. Only Putin sympathizers would ask about that. The good citizen unquestioningly follows.
And even today, we do not know, because we do not ask, and we do not want to. Because knowledge is responsibility.
However: We should address what led to people in Israel committing and continuing to commit terrible acts against others. We should research precisely, timelines, motives, backgrounds. Perhaps from many sources with the most diverse cultural, linguistic, religious differences, and interpretations. We should learn to understand which circumstances lead to conflicts and how they could be solved. But we should also surely wait a long time before drawing premature conclusions or taking sides and, of course, condemn all violence - no matter what justification it comes with.
It should be in the self-image of humanity to condemn violence and to create spaces for action in which we can find solutions through dialogue and humanity.
And of course, solidarity with all victims of any oppression and aggression. People, children on all sides who have been experiencing unbelievable things for months.
The one-sidedness of solidarity as raison d'état, the decontextualized language of the leading media, the constant gaslighting, the defamation of alternative voices, the demand for a rational but inexplicable partisanship on the part of politics with simultaneous censorship and discrediting of people who advocate for a differentiated discussion - all of this blinds us. And while the constant echo chamber may play into the hands of populists and demagogues, we are again at the point of overlooking what is actually happening right on our doorstep. Who wants to deal with the reality of now over 14,000 dead under 14 years of age, or what the individual suffering of almost 2 million people on the run actually means or how it must feel to be held captive by criminals and murderers for months?
If a conflict in German media is almost exclusively analyzed and commented on by the military press representatives of one party (and this certainly does not represent the entire, in this case, Israeli, people and their assessment), one may pause for a moment. What we have been receiving from the 4th estate in Germany for years is war propaganda. I wonder why so few see or want to see this. The tone has changed, and so has the language. We do not even rub against it, but applaud when "Die Zeit" authors say that the martial spirit of the next generation must be a state goal.
For a specific reason, I recently reread the book "Panther in the Basement" by the Israeli author Amos Oz after many years. It fits the times. Human struggle will always be - but somewhere there is a light. That we should know and keep our eyes, ears open and our voice and language, our ability to dialogue and diplomacy as well.

Το πιο χρήσιμο πράγμα που μπορούμε να μάθουμε στη ζωή είναι να ξεχάσουμε ό,τι είναι ψευδές.

Όποιος μεγάλωσε στη Γερμανία γνωρίζει το ερώτημα: "Πώς συνέβη αυτό; Γιατί δεν κάνατε τίποτα, όταν συνέβη η μεγαλύτερη από όλες τις αδικίες στη μέση της κοινωνίας;"
"Δεν το γνωρίζαμε", ήταν η απάντηση. Και αυτό ήταν δύσκολο να καταλάβεις από παιδί. Πώς μπορεί κάποιος να μην γνωρίζει τι συμβαίνει μπροστά στα μάτια του;
Ζούμε σε δύσκολους καιρούς και παραδέχομαι ότι έχω πολύ περιορισμένη γνώση των κινήτρων και των παρασκηνίων, παρόλο που πάντα προσπαθώ να παρακολουθώ τα πολιτικά γεγονότα με προσοχή, εκτενώς, ουδέτερα και από όλες τις πιθανές πλευρές.
Ωστόσο, τώρα είναι προφανές: Δεν ξέρουμε τι συμβαίνει, επειδή δεν θέλουμε να το μάθουμε. Επειδή έχουμε εγκαταλείψει την ευθύνη μας. Σε αυτά τα όργανα της ηθικής ηγεσίας, στα οποία τώρα ακολουθούμε χωρίς ερωτήματα, υπό κάθε συνθήκη (αυτό ονομάζεται σήμερα σταθερότητα κράτους, ή παλιότερα πιστοληπτία και υπακοή).
Αυτό το σχήμα το είδαμε κατά τη διάρκεια της περιόδου του κορονοϊού - μέχρι σήμερα, οι πειθαρχημένοι δεν είναι σε θέση να αντικρούσουν το εάν ήταν κατάλληλο να λογοκριθούν, να αποκλειστούν και, αν χρειαστεί, να διαλυθούν με το παλιρροϊκό, άτομα που υποστήριζαν την ελευθερία του λόγου, όπως ορίζεται στο Σύνταγμα, και πολλά ακόμα. Πράγματι, δεν το βλέπουν, επειδή αυτό θα απαιτούσε την ικανότητα να κατανοήσουν τα πράγματα που έχουν μάθει ως σχετικά και να αναγνωρίσουν τα λάθη στην ικανότητά τους να κατανοήσουν - πρόκειται όμως για μια ψυχολογική παράδοξη, και εκεί βρισκόμαστε δυσκολευόμαστε να προχωρήσουμε, γιατί εάν η αναγνώριση δεν λειτουργεί, πώς να αναγνωρίσουμε ότι δεν λειτουργεί. Γι' αυτό λένε ότι ένα λανθασμένο σύστημα δεν είναι ποτέ αναγνώσιμο από μέσα.
Αυτό το σχήμα το βλέπουμε στη σύγκρουση στην Ουκρανία, όπου δεν πρέπει να υπάρχει άλλη αφήγηση εκτός από αυτή που επικοινωνεί ο ΝΑΤΟ. Δεν θέλουμε να μάθουμε και δεν θέλουμε να ξέρουμε. Northstream - άκουσον, άκουσον, καλύτερα όχι. Η ανατολική διεύρυνση του ΝΑΤΟ και όλα τα γεγονότα πριν το 2022 - δεν είναι σημαντικά. Μόνο οι φίλοι του Πούτιν κάνουν ερωτήσεις. Ο καλός πολίτης ακολουθεί αναζητώντας.
Και σήμερα δεν γνωρίζουμε, γιατί δεν ρωτάμε και δεν θέλουμε. Γιατί η γνώση σημαίνει ευθύνη.
Ωστόσο, θα έπρεπε να ασχοληθούμε με το τι οδήγησε στο να προκαλέσουν άλλοι ανθρώποι τα πλέον φρικτά πράγματα σε άλλους ανθρώπους στο Ισραήλ στις 07.10. Θα έπρεπε να κάνουμε ακριβείς έρευνες, χρονολόγια, κίνητρα, παρασκήνια. Ίσως από πολλές πηγές με διαφορετικές πολιτιστικές, γλωσσικές, θρησκευτικές διαφορές και ερμηνείες. Πρέπει να μάθουμε να κατανοούμε ποιες συνθήκες οδηγούν σε συγκρούσεις και πώς αυτές θα μπορούσαν να επιλυθούν. Πρέπει όμως επίσης να περιμένουμε πολύ καιρό πριν βγάλουμε βιαστικά συμπεράσματα και προτιμήσουμε να μην πάρουμε θέση.
Θα έπρεπε να είναι αυτονόητο για τον άνθρωπο να καταδικάζει τη βία και να δημιουργεί πεδία δράσης όπου θα μπορούσαμε να βρούμε λύσεις με διάλογο και ανθρώπινοτητα.
Και φυσικά, αλληλεγγύη με όλα τα θύματα οποιασδήποτε καταπίεσης και επίθεσης. Άνθρωποι, παιδιά σε όλες τις πλευρές που υφίστανται απίστευτα βάσανα εδώ και μήνες.
Η μονομερής αλληλεγγύη ως σταθερότητα κράτους, η αποσυνδεδεμένη χρήση της γλώσσας από τα κύρια μέσα ενημέρωσης, η συνεχής απάτη με το φως, η συκοφαντία εναλλακτικών απόψεων, η απαίτηση από την πολιτική να υιοθετεί αποφάσεις που δεν μπορούν να δικαιολογηθούν ενώπιον της λογικής, μαζί με τη λογοκρισία και την αποποίηση των ανθρώπων που προσπαθούν για μια διαφοροποιημένη συζήτηση - όλα αυτά κάνουν τους ανθρώπους τυφλούς. Και ενώ ο συνεχής ηχών ίσως παίζει στα χέρια των λαϊκιστών και των δημαγωγών, εμείς βρισκόμαστε πάλι στο σημείο να παραβλέπουμε τι συμβαίνει πραγματικά μπροστά στην πόρτα μας. Ποιος θέλει να ασχοληθεί με την πραγματικότητα των πάνω από 14.000 νεκρών κάτω των 14 ετών;
Όταν ένας σύγκρουση αναλύεται κυρίως από τις πληροφορίες των δημοσιογράφων του στρατού μιας πλευράς στα γερμανικά μέσα ενημέρωσης (και σίγουρα δεν αντιπροσωπεύει όλο το, σε αυτή την περίπτωση το ισραηλινό, λαό και την εκτίμησή του) πρέπει να σταματήσεις για λίγο. Αυτό που λαμβάνουμε εδώ και χρόνια από τον τέταρτο εξουσιοδόχο στη Γερμανία είναι προπαγάνδα πολέμου. Αναρωτιέμαι γιατί τόσοι λίγοι το βλέπουν, ή θέλουν να το δουν. Τον τόνο άλλαξε και η γλώσσα. Ούτε καν το συζητάμε, αλλά χειροκροτούμε όταν οι συντάκτες του "Zeit" λένε ότι η πολεμική ικανότητα της επόμενης γενιάς πρέπει να είναι στόχος του κράτους.
Για συγκεκριμένους λόγους, πρόσφατα ξαναδιάβασα μετά από πολλά χρόνια το βιβλίο "Πάνθηρας στο υπόγειο" του Ισραηλινού συγγραφέα Άμος Όζ. Ταιριάζει με την εποχή. Η ανθρώπινη πάλη θα υπάρχει πάντα - αλλά υπάρχει ένα φως κάπου εκεί. Πρέπει να το γνωρίζουμε και να κρατάμε τα μάτια, τα αυτιά μας ανοιχτά και τη φωνή, τη γλώσσα μας, τη δυνατότητα διαλόγου και διπλωματίας μας επίσης.
