Like , you start slow. You try to prepare your spine as much as possible. Starting with a strong foundation, you begin to engage the muscles in the back to support your spine as you then open the chest, breathe consciously into the lungs, and take the arms overhead. At this point, you should be able to spot the floor! But sometimes the floor seems so far, and sometimes it appears to be closer than it really is.
PLOP! 💥 You find yourself in in a matter of milliseconds!
🥀So is how I intend on approaching the next 3 months. I’m just gonna drop back, surrender and trust that I am strong enough to catch myself so I do not fall on my face.
🥀I am not 100% sure how I learned drop backs. It was easier than I expected. And I never was a fan of using the wall because I felt like if I wasn’t strong enough to hold a static backbend against the wall (minimal support from the wall) I was only going to compress my vertebrae. I think I focused more on just keeping my legs strong and shifting the weight forward and spotting the mat. I think it only took me 2 courageous weeks to rock forward and to drop back. The journey for others I’ve been told can take years. Either I’m not that patient or, I was just very eager to get them hahahahaha
🥀Finally, home practice! PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Although people’s energy encourages us to “push ourselves”, I truly believe the real work is done at home in the comfort (or discomfort) of your own headspace. Without a solid, consistent, disciplined practice, it’s hard to move forward. Not to say that will be a graceful transition, but maybe when you realize how crazy we all are in our heads, it makes it easier to deal with the outer world.
