Signal over noise is becoming the real superpower.
In this short clip from The Extra Mile Podcast Episode #2 on YouTube with Puria, we talk about a tension every builder and founder feels:
• Focus on the 20 percent that moves the mission (the ‘signal’)
• And still stay curious and do things that don’t scale
Looking a bit more deeply at the signal vs. noise idea:
In engineering, signal-to-noise ratio describes how much of what you want is actually coming through versus the interference that distorts it. The higher the ratio, the clearer the message.
That framing applies to business and life as well:
➤ Signal = the few inputs and actions that move the mission forward
➤ Noise = everything that grabs attention, creates motion, but dilutes outcomes
💡 A simple practice I’m adopting: Each morning, one sheet of paper.
• Left side: Signals (today’s highest-leverage moves)
• Right side: Noise (everything else trying to sneak onto the list)
Then consciously decide to truly focus on the signal side.
Over time the noise column gets longer. That’s useful. It becomes a delegation list, a “not now” list, and a filter for protecting momentum.

You can ask yourself: what signals could you give more focus, and what noise will you eliminate this week?
