👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 In collaboration with AbbVie we have taken another step to address the urgent need for reliable and sensitive 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀.

Our collaborative study analyzed protein levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma samples from patients with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. Using the 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺, various differentially expressed proteins in comparison to healthy controls were identified, including:

• 𝗖𝗗𝟭𝟰: Elevated levels in CSF of patients with 𝗔𝗹𝘇𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲
• 𝗢𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻 (𝗢𝗣𝗡): Elevated levels in CSF of patients with 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲

🔬 These findings were validated using automated fluorescence-based 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗧𝗠 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀, demonstrating the strength of combining exploratory proteomics with targeted ligand-binding assays for biomarker discovery and validation.

On 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆, we at 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗚𝗺𝗯𝗛 reflect on the profound impact of diabetes research and our contributions toward advancing science for better patient outcomes. We work with partners from academia and biotech to discover 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 and to understand the 𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺𝘀 underlying diabetes and its complications, including its relationship with cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and other metabolic diseases.

🔬 In recent years, the 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 contributed to a study titled "𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲". This research explored how metformin, a commonly prescribed medication for type II diabetes mellitus, influences protein expression in cancer cells, particularly in the context of hyperinsulinemia – a condition commonly seen in diabetic patients.

👩‍🔬 👨‍🔬 Through our 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 antibody microarray service, we helped to uncover key insights into how metformin may counteract some of the pro-cancerous effects induced by high insulin levels. These findings bring us closer to understanding how diabetes treatments can play a role not only in managing diabetes but also in preventing or treating associated conditions, such as endometrial cancer.

We spent a fantastic day hiking through the scenic beauty of the Rhine-Neckar region 🏞 - A vibrant area known for its rich life sciences ecosystem. 🔬 After reaching our destination, we enjoyed a relaxing boat ride back and ended the day with a proper BBQ and refreshing drinks. ⛴

Heute ist Welt-Nieren-Tag!

Lasst uns das Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung der Nierengesundheit und die lebenswichtige Rolle, die unsere Nieren dabei spielen, erhöhen. Wusstest Du, dass Nierenerkrankungen Millionen von Menschen weltweit betreffen?

Es ist Zeit, Maßnahmen zu ergreifen, um Nierenproblemen vorzubeugen, sie zu erkennen und zu behandeln. Der Welt-Nieren-Tag zielt darauf ab, das Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung sicherzustellen, dass Menschen mit Nierenerkrankungen einen gerechten Zugang zu angemessener Behandlung und Betreuung erhalten, um ihre Lebensqualität zu verbessern und den Fortschritt der Krankheit zu verzögern.

Bei Sciomics: Enabling precision medicine sind wir stolz auf unsere hausinterne Forschung zu Akuter Nierenschädigung (AKI). AKI ist ein plötzlicher Verlust der Nierenfunktion, der oft als Komplikation anderer schwerwiegender medizinischer Zustände auftritt. Zum Beispiel tritt AKI häufig als Komplikation nach großen Operationen auf, kann aber auch durch Sepsis, Nebenwirkungen von Medikamenten oder Komorbiditäten verursacht werden.

Eine frühzeitige Erkennung und Intervention bei AKI ist entscheidend für Patienten: Sie kann den Umfang der Nierenschäden reduzieren und die Chance erhöhen, dass AKI reversibel ist. Unser scioAKI-Projekt hat vielversprechende frühzeitige Biomarker-Kombinationen für perioperative AKI mit einer sehr starken diagnostischen Leistung identifiziert. Basierend auf diesen Ergebnissen zielen wir darauf ab, einen zuverlässigen und einfach zu verwendenden Test für die frühzeitige Diagnose von AKI in einer klinischen Umgebung zu entwickeln.

We are excited to participate in the first BioLabs European Investor Day in Paris! Europe’s top biotech startups and the most active European and international life science investors will come together on March 19th to advance medicine.

We are honored to present our contributions to the earlier and precise diagnosis of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI). Sciomics scioAKI project has identified promising early biomarker combinations for perioperative AKI with a very strong diagnostic performance.

Based on these results, a new spin-off will be dedicated to the development of a reliable and easy-to-use test for the early diagnosis of AKI in a clinical setting.
