👀 Google search data reveals further increase in online searches about the meaning of burnout and its symptoms.

If you are feeling burned out, typically things in your environment need to change.

Burnout can be triggered by work, but also by family and relational difficulties or through adverse individual experiences.

It is crucial to reach out for help before the symptoms of burnout impede our functioning.

My Freudian slip is that I’ve called my husband “mom” a couple of times, which says a lot about my unconscious desire to have a partner who can mother me and take the brunt of adult-life responsibilities 👶🏼👨‍🍼🐥🍼😭😂

What’s your Freudian slip?

Thanks for sending me the literal dress of my dreams 👗

Yours,

For most therapists it takes on average 6 months to build a somewhat sustainable part-time practice, for some it takes more, and for others they need only a month or two. This latter category, let’s call them our shooting stars, have built thriving practices in no time. These are counsellors who now have wait lists, and so they’re mostly using the It's Complicated platform for its practice management tools, not as a directory for getting client referrals. What are they doing differently and what can we learn for them? Read it in our blog: https://blog.complicated.life/how-to-create-a-thriving-private-practice/

Not just our emotions but also the global situation can seem like one storm after the other, and to stay put under volatile circumstances "dropping anchor" can be useful. The technique is developed by ACT practitioner Russ Harris, and psychologist and co-founder of It's Complicated, Johanne Schwensen (), has used it herself and with her clients since she started doing therapy. It might even be her favorite and most practiced technique.

With a destabilizing global crisis (Covid-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, overturning of abortion rights in the US, global warming) employee care seems more essential than ever before.⁣

With a counselling program for employees, a company is not only providing prevention against decreased performance and lost workforce, but also an intervention that fosters well-being, growth and personal development. ⁣

It might even create employees who are motivated, engaged, and loyal to their companies, because their companies are loyal to them and their mental health. At least to us, that might as well be priceless. ⁣

We know how hard it is to find a therapist in public health services. This is where companies can skip the middleman of the insurance, and facilitate a process where mental health becomes accessible to anyone, regardless of their income or type of health insurance.⁣

This is what is the focus of It’s Complicated for Companies – making therapy accessible and the process for companies and their employees simple. No extra nonsense, just quality counselling. ⁣

Why It’s Complicated?

Johanne, a Danish psychologist trained in behavioral methods. Jakob, a psychoanalyst with an orientation towards Carl Jung. Both charged with prejudices against each other’s approach to counselling, with experiences to back it up.

Prejudices aside, there was still somehow a match between the two. At the first meeting, six years ago at a Berlin café, their differences sparked a conversation about what psychology’s role is today. This conversation continues to this day and it led to the founding of It’s Complicated. But first there was an intermezzo.

See, Johanne and Jakob’s first meeting inspired a project to bring therapeutic conversations out on the streets. This took the form of a group conversations between psychologists, analysts, students, authors and artists in bars, cafès and galleries around Berlin. The purpose was to explore psychology as something that happens also outside of the therapy room.

The learnings from these projects left them with a clearer idea of what their ongoing conversation could materialize into. In 2017 they established Mittelweg 50, a practice space for international therapists in Berlin, defined by the diversity of its practitioners. All therapists are from different schools of psychology as well as different parts of the world.
