What is Shiatsu, exactly?
Shiatsu is a touch therapy, developed in Japan, but based on the ancient Chinese medicine. As acupuncture and other alternative therapies, it’s job is mostly keeping the body healthy. Shiatsu is actually using touch, pressing acupressure points and other bodily manipulations to activate and balance our original energies. Our body is full of meridians, the energy channels in which the Qi flows.
What is Qi (pronounced- Chi)?
Qi is everything- everything physical- the sun, the earth, the air, the plants, and also our bodies. It is the energy of a waterfall, the warmth of the fire, and the anger we feel when we don’t get what we want, or the peace we feel when we are hugged by our loved one.
As I wrote in the previous post, originally there is no border in the world. Emotions, material, thoughts, nature and our bodies- are not disconnected from each other. There are all manifestations of Qi, in different forms.
Imagine an earthquake. A big rock falls from the mountain and blocks the river. The river loses it’s balance- on one side there is no more water, the earth gets dry and cracks, the plants lose their energy source and die, and the animals migrate to the other side of the river.
And in this other river side, the water are splashing everywhere, covering more and more of the earth. The plants get too much water, maybe some drown. The earth gets soaky and loses her fertility, the animal population is too big and they fight over food. Both sides are imbalanced- and causes troubles for their fellow plants, animals and earth.
In Shiatsu, we find those rocks, and we take care of them, so the rivers (meridians) can be open again and the Qi can flow freely and in balance, giving it’s energy to all the organs and maintains our health.
The rocks can be emotions, feeling of unfulfilleness, bad habits, wrong nutrition, too much or not enough work and movement and many other reasons. The Shiatsu therapist diagnoses the reasons and helping the process of bringing the balance back to the body.
