🧠 From a request to a solution – the EpiPro Light

Sometimes, the best solutions begin with a specific need. In this case, a father approached us looking for a lightweight, well-ventilated protective helmet for his child. His priorities: space for glasses and a forehead guard, a bright color to reduce heat in the sun, and a design that’s as light as possible.

The result: the EpiPro Light – a custom-made solution that met all of these requirements:

– Cut-outs for glasses and forehead protection
– White surface to prevent heat build-up
– Ultra-light: only 320 g
– Washable – unlike many leather or fabric helmets
– Excellent shock absorption and secure fit

Requests like this show how important it is to listen closely. Real-world needs often lead to solutions that go far beyond the individual case.

🧠 How much protection is enough?
Medical helmets need to do more than perform well in lab tests – they must protect in real life:
during a fall on tiles, in everyday care routines or on the playground.

In our published article in Orthopädie Technik, we explore a fundamental question:
What does protection mean – beyond established standards?

We tested different helmet types – conventional models and 3D-printed variants with gyroid and lattice structures.

What we found:
✔️ Traditional helmets quickly reach their physical limits
✔️ Additive manufacturing allows for targeted, effective protection
✔️ Protection, weight and hygiene can be aligned – with the right design approach
