Applications are now open for the 10th intake of the Professional Diploma in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB Diploma) for the Summer Semester This diploma is part of the ongoing sustainable activities of the EG-CompBio project, "Empowering Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Research".

Originally funded by DAAD (2019–2021), EG-CompBio was launched by Rostock University Medical Center (Germany) to modernize research and professional skills in computational biology and bioinformatics across Egyptian and Arab universities and research centers.

EG-CompBio also serves as a non-university partner in the following international initiatives:

1-GARN-CLS: German-Arab Research Network for Computational Life Science

2-GEM-CAP: German-Egyptian Microbiome Research Capacity Building

3-GJRC-IHI: German-Jordanian Research Cluster in Intelligent Healthcare Informatics
4-OSCAR-AI:Optical Sensing for Cost-effective AI-based Responsive Healthcare: Advancing Health Tech in Medicine with Ultra-Sensitive Diagnostic Solutions
5-BRAIN-GEM: Bridging Cultures and Innovating Occupational Safety—Exploring the Role of AI in Workplace Transformation.

-Build research and professional capacity in computational biology and bioinformatics through advanced training and practical projects on real-world biological data.
-Foster international collaboration and networking between Egyptian/Arab institutions and global partners to modernize and align regional competencies with international standards.

Teaching mode:
The BCB diploma courses are conducted ONLINE at accessible rate ensuring information delivery with lots of opportunities for interactions, and hands-on tutorials.

Prerequisites for joining the diploma:
Having a bachelor (BS.c) degree OR being undergraduate student in
1- A biology-related faculties such as science, medicine, veterinary, pharmacy, biotechnology, agricultural, or other related fields) or:
2- A computer-related faculties such as Engineering (all specialisation), computer science, information systems, science (minor computer systems), or other related fields

Courses duration and schedule:
-All courses will be scheduled afternoon during working days (after 7.30 PM Cairo timezone).
-Some courses will be scheduled on the weekend (ex: Saturday) according to the lecturer's availability.
-Each course lasts between 36 to 40 hrs including lectures, hands-on tutorials, and a graduation project. One session (lecture + tutorial) per week, each runs for 3 hrs i.e a course will take around 12 to 14 weeks.
-The data analytics and visualisation in R (DAV-R) course will be taking more times of lectures/tutorials as it is a crucial course for all the advanced courses.

Diploma Certificate and Accreditation:
-Participants will receive a certificate of completion and a diploma transcript from the EG-CompBio as a DAAD-funded project along the German-Egyptian university partnership progress programme (2019-2021).
-There will be also a certificate for each course upon request.

Are there age limitations?
-NO, age is just a number!
When will this Diploma batch start?
-The BCB courses will start officially by End of March 2026 Inshallah.
How long does the diploma take?
-It varies between 2 semesters (6 months) or 3 semesters for some participants. Thus, no specific time. It is up to your time, effort, and capacity to finish 6 courses.

Fees and funding possibilities:
Starting from Intake 2, the BCB diploma is self-funded:
-A one-time admission fee of 750 EGP is applied for all applicants.
-Each course costs 4000 EGP.
-Payment will be per course. No need to pay all the diploma fees at once.
-There is an option to pay in instalments on 12 or 18 months (in agreement with Financial agents like Soholola , Valu , certian banks : ex: NBE, CIB, BM,.etc)
-If you are incapable of paying the entire fees, please contact us and we will do the possible to make it affordable for everyone.

We are pleased to award Dr. Oussema Khamessi, Assistant Professor at the Higher Institute of Biotechnology of Sidi Thabet (ISBST) and Research Associate at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT), for his remarkable contributions to the GARN Network 🌍🔬

🏆 Dr. Khamessi was honored for his impactful work in bioinformatics and cancer research, as well as for his dedicated mentorship in workshops on drug design and cancer research throughout the entire period of the GARN-CLS project (2 workshops in Tunisia , 1 hackathon in Egypt, 1 hackathon in Tunisia, 1 workshop in Egypt and 1 workshop in Morocco ).

📍 This recognition was presented during the GARN-CLS Closing Ceremony, alongside advanced bioinformatics workshops of the OSCAR-AI initiative.

🧬 His presentation on the interface between drug design and cancer research stood out for its methodologies and well-structured computational pipelines for disease targeting.

👏 It was truly inspiring to have Dr.Khamessi contributing to advancing collaborative research within the GARN network. We wish Dr. Khamessi continued success in his future endeavours!
