Did you know that every living being/horse goes through the five phases of transformation?
The cycle begins in the Water element at birth. They remain in the Water element for the first 9 to 12 months. They are often quite timid at first.
Around 12 to 18 months, the Wood phase/puberty begins and lasts until the 4th or 5th year of life. They are excitable, stubborn – "testing their limits."
From the 4th or 5th year of life until about the 10th, they are in the Fire element. Young, adult horses full of joy, strength, beauty, and performance.
Between the 10th and 12th year of life, the horses become calmer, and the Earth phase begins. Their appearance changes. They become rounder and fuller, and excitement becomes less of a factor.
Between the 16th and early 20s, Earth transitions into Metal, characterized by a calm, thoughtful nature. Their body becomes more angular and they are good teachers for young riders.
Between their mid- to late twenties, the water phase begins again. Horses become more fearful, lower in rank and sensitive to cold, wet weather – this weakens the kidneys.
Of course, when considering the life cycles, one must also take into account the element to which the horse is more closely associated. Therefore, there can be slight variations. For example, a Fire Horse won't be as calm in the Metal phase as an Earth Horse. More information on this can be found in the previous post.
