TRAINING ROOM: Panzer Kaserne, Bldg. 2915, Room 007 Armed Forces with their families during a crisis. Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross quickly sends emergency communications to deployed service members on behalf of their family. Military members can have peace of mind knowing that when they are on a mission, in training or stationed far from home-and leaving cell phones and emails behind-they are still connected to home. While providing service to 1.4 million active duty military personnel and their families, the Red Cross also reaches out to more than 1.2 million members of the National Guard and Reserves and their families living in nearly every community in America. Red Cross workers in hundreds of chapters and on military installations briefed 974,573 departing service members and their families regarding available support services, and explained how the Red Cross may assist them during the deployment. Both active duty and community-based military can count on the Red Cross to provide emergency communications that link them with their families back home, access to financial assistance in partnership with the military aid societies, information and referral and assistance to veterans. Red Cross personnel form a global network in 700 U.S. chapters, military installations worldwide and in forward deployed locations in Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Bring Your Pet Inside – Cold weather affects pets, too.
If you notice shivering, slower movement, or your pet searching for warm places, it may be time to head indoors.

When temperatures drop, bringing pets inside helps keep them safe and comfortable.

Signs of Frostbite: Cold, numb skin or areas that look pale or waxy can be warning signs when spending time outdoors in winter.

Pay attention to how your body feels in the cold—especially hands, feet, ears, and face. Early awareness can help you act sooner.

DO NOT IGNORE SHIVERING! ❄ Shivering is often the body’s first signal that it’s losing heat outdoors. It’s a reminder to pause, warm up, and check in with those around you.

Looking out for one another matters—especially during colder days.

🌟 Youth Volunteer Recognition Spotlight: Hayden & Lilah C. 👏

While we haven’t had a Youth Volunteer of the Quarter in a bit, we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize two of our youth volunteers this quarter for all they’ve done in such a short amount of time. With over 60 hours completed in just a single quarter between the two of them, so many of us have had the benefit of working with Hayden and Lilah at many of our larger events. These two are a dynamic sister/brother duo who only recently became American Red Cross volunteers back in September, but we’ve been so impressed with how they dove right in. They have attended many outreach and special events, often each taking a different shift on the same day so there's even coverage. One nominator says, “They appear nearly weekly on our page since they are so active! They've been an asset to our special events/outreach efforts.” It’s youths like Hayden and Lilah that inspire so much of our community to engage and respond, and we are so proud to have them as Red Cross volunteers.

🙌❤️ Thank you, Hayden and Lilah, for your energy, dedication, and incredible teamwork!

Mental Health Tip: Stay Connected

Winter can feel isolating—but staying connected matters.

A call, message, or checking in on someone can offer support and remind us we’re not alone. Small moments of connection can go a long way.

✨ Volunteer Opportunity: Volunteer Onboarding Support ✨

We’re looking for a friendly, organized volunteer to support Volunteer Onboarding—both behind the scenes and occasionally face-to-face—so new volunteers feel welcome, informed, and ready to get involved.

What this role may include:
- Leading or assisting with occasional volunteer orientation sessions
- Providing behind-the-scenes support to help onboarding run smoothly
- Answering basic questions and helping new volunteers get connected

Optional: taking over the Intake Queue for additional onboarding support

Time commitment:
Most weeks: 1 hour
During peak PCS season: slightly more time as we welcome more new volunteers

This role is flexible, low-time-commitment, and a great way to support our volunteer community in a meaningful way.
