🌍 New Findings: Global Estimation of Dietary Micronutrient Inadequacies

Over half of the global population is lacking essential nutrients such as iodine, vitamin E, and calcium—deficiencies that can lead to serious health consequences.

🍎 5+ billion people are not getting enough iodine (68%), vitamin E (67%), and calcium (66%).
🍎 4+ billion have inadequate intakes of iron (65%), riboflavin (55%), folate (54%), and vitamin C (53%).
🍎 Nutrient gaps vary by age, s*x, and country, with women more often experiencing deficiencies in iodine, B12, iron, and selenium.

At BioAnalyt, we understand how vital nutrition is to health. Our iCheck devices efficiently measure micronutrient levels, helping you improve food quality and ensuring successful food fortification initiatives.

🌟 iCheck Chroma3: Advancing Vitamin A Testing in Edible Oils 🌟

A new study compares BioAnalyt’s portable iCheck Chroma 3 device with traditional HPLC for measuring vitamin A in fortified oils.

🔍 Key Findings:
- Both methods showed strong repeatability (CV < 10%).
- Vitamin A recovery: HPLC (97%-132%), iCheck Chroma 3 (74%-127%).
- High correlation (r = 0.88) between iCheck Chroma 3 and HPLC results.

🎯 Impact: iCheck Chroma 3 offers a faster, cost-effective alternative for vitamin A testing compared to traditional lab methods like HPLC.

Eat right, start young

Child malnutrition isn’t just a health crisis—it’s an economic one. The impacts are hidden, but the costs are enormous.

🧠 Lower IQ, Lower Earnings: A fetus with a weight below the tenth percentile can expect to score seven IQ points lower on neuro-developmental measures. In real-world terms, this means lower school performance and, later, lower earnings. Malnutrition in early childhood can widen the IQ gap by about 15 points by age five, translating into up to 10% lower lifetime earnings.

💰 Increased Healthcare Costs: Malnourished children are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases later in life, leading to higher healthcare costs. These long-term health issues can strain public health systems, diverting resources from other essential services. (Source: https://www.unicef.org/philippines/stories/stunting-and-malnutrition-pose-health-and-economic-burden-bangsamoro )

🍴 Generational Poverty: Malnourished mothers are more likely to have underweight babies, creating a cycle of poverty and poor health that’s hard to break. This perpetuates economic inequality and limits a country's potential for growth. (Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7485412/ )

Malnutrition isn’t just a barrier to health—it’s a barrier to economic development and societal progress.

BioAnalyt is committed to breaking the cycle of malnutrition. Our technology helps identify at-risk populations and track the effectiveness of nutritional interventions. Connect with us to learn more.

Early nutrition is the cornerstone of cognitive development. The first 1,000 days after conception, often called the 'golden window,' are a critical period for brain development. A well-nourished brain forms essential neural connections at an astonishing rate, shaping a child's future learning, behaviour, and health. Prioritizing proper nutrition for mothers and infants is the building block for productive societies.
