In space, nothing is quite like it is on Earth — not even the human eye.
After long missions, astronauts report blurred vision and changes to the optic nerve. Researchers call this phenomenon Space Flight-Associated Neuro-Ocular Syndrome (SANS). Why it occurs is still unclear. But on board the International Space Station (ISS), scientists are looking for answers — supported by the OCULUS Smartfield.
This compact, portable perimeter measures the astronauts’ visual fields, providing valuable insights into how microgravity affects vision.
The findings may not only help protect astronauts on future missions — they could also advance our understanding of ocular health here on Earth.
