Think less sugar and processed foods!! (Yes bread is a processed food)

By eating more whole foods and less processed foods we will feed the good bacteria in our gut. (Sugars feed the “bad” bacteria)

How many of us actually slow down at mealtime to thoroughly chew our food?

We live in a busy fast paced world and often times rush through everything in our day. Even eating. Our minds are racing, we’re distracted by our phone, we’re thinking about the next task at hand.

Chewing our food sounds like common sense right? Of course we chew our food, lol.

🌟I can’t stress enough how important it is to really slow down, calm your mind, and chew it until it’s mush in your mouth. The consistency of applesauce. Like 20-30 times per bite.

This affects our WHOLE digestive system. Which in turn affects how we absorb the nutrients we’re eating, our energy levels, how we feel, how healthy we are overall, etc.

Our body senses what type of food we have in our mouth as soon as it hits our tongue, and the digestive process has already started.

Do you ever have gas, bloating, feel too full, heartburn, etc? Then chew your food!! You’ll thank me later 😜

✨ Rest & Digest ✨

We have to be in a c a l m cool + collected state of mind when we eat in order to properly digest our food. We need to slow down, put away the distractions, take a few deep breaths and chew our food thoroughly.

Listen, when you’re stressed….your digestive system is stressed!

When we don’t digest and absorb nutrients properly we can have all kinds of symptoms and issues happening. Digestive dysfunction (bloating, gas, heartburn, etc), hormone imbalances (ladies- pms symptoms), allergies + immune symptoms, skin issues….it’s ALL related to proper digestion.

Sounds simple right?! It is!

When we eat on the go or in a “stressed” state our body puts d i g e s t i o n on the back burner. We don’t want that if we want to absorb the nutrients from our food. (The whole point of eating right?!)

So one simple thing we can do is…
SIT DOWN.

Eat in a calm manner. It’s called activating our parasympathetic nervous system. Also known as
“Rest and Digest”.

DIGESTION Y’ALL!!

There is so much more to digestion than you might think. It is a north to south process, starting in your brain. If you aren’t in a calm state (or a parasympathetic state) while eating, you can have LOTS of dysfunction happening. And that means uncomfortable digestive symptoms and not absorbing important nutrients properly.

🌿TIPS:::

~ Calm your body before eating
~ Sit down to eat
~ Take a few deep breaths
~ Pray or practice gratitude
~ Put away any distractions (including your phone)
~ CHEW your food!! (I mean until it’s mush. Your stomach doesn’t have teeth 😜)

If we aren’t in a parasympathetic state our digestion is negatively affected ALL the way down.
