🧬 Can viruses help fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria?

We’re excited to support the talented team at igem_muenster as they explore exactly that in this year’s iGEM competition – one of the world’s leading initiatives in synthetic biology. 🌍🔬

As a lab supply company committed to advancing science, nerbe plus is proud to donate essential lab equipment and materials 🧪📦 to help bring their innovative project to life.

This year, the team is addressing one of the most urgent global health challenges: the rise of multi-antibiotic-resistant bacteria 🦠. These pathogens already cause millions of deaths each year, a number projected to climb to over 39 million by 2050. Their solution? Harnessing bacteriophages (viruses that infect bacteria) and endolysins – viruses and enzymes that could one day serve as powerful alternatives to antibiotics 💊➡️🧬.

The international Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition is a global initiative where student teams design and build innovative solutions to real-world problems using synthetic biology. With over 400 teams worldwide, iGEM fosters collaboration 🤝, creativity 💡, and sustainability 🌱 – values we strongly believe in.
