Blood is an essential part of every health system. It saves lives in emergencies, surgeries, cancer care, trauma, and childbirth.
Every blood donation is a gift of hope. It can mean the difference between life and death for patients in need of transfusions.
But access isn’t equal: Many countries struggle with chronic shortages of safe blood, especially for children and mothers.
Since blood cannot be stored indefinitely, there is a continuous need for regular, voluntary, unpaid donations.
Want to donate blood but not sure if you’re eligible? Here’s what you need to know!
Most healthy adults can give blood:
You should be between 18–65 years old.? You should weigh at least 50 kg.? You must feel well and not be sick on donation day.? Your blood pressure, pulse, and haemoglobin levels will be checked before donating. The entire process is safe, quick, and rewarding.
One unit of safe blood can save up to 3 lives! It takes just an hour to donate, but the impact can last a lifetime.

Today is World Hand Hygiene Day.

❓ Did you know…

Healthcare-associated infections are one of the most common problems in healthcare, affecting about 1 in 10 patients on average.

🙌 Hand hygiene is a simple yet powerful way to prevent infections—stopping up to 50% of avoidable infections during healthcare.

Simple tips include:

🧼 Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
🖐️ Use alcohol-based hand rubs if water isn’t available.
🧤 Don’t rely on gloves alone—clean hands before and after glove use.
🍽️ Wash hands before eating and after using the restroom.
🏥 Poor hand hygiene leads to longer hospital stays, higher treatment costs, and avoidable deaths.
📢 Everyone has the right to safe care—stay informed and speak up for hand hygiene.

Clean hands save lives.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

👩🏽‍🦰 Breast cancer is the most common cancer globally with around 2.3 million new cases every year. Roughly half of all breast cancers occur in women with no specific risk factors other than s*x and age.

📉 Reducing global breast cancer mortality by 2.5% per year would avert 25% of breast cancer deaths by 2030 and 40% by 2040 among women under 70 years of age.

These objectives can be achieved by:

1️⃣ Health promotion for early detection
2️⃣ Timely diagnosis
3️⃣ Comprehensive breast cancer management
