What does it *feel* like for cortisol to be out of balance over the course of a day?
These are the signs it might be time to test:
- Food cravings or increased appetite
- Struggling to focus
- Mood swings or irritability
- Waking during sleep
- Difficulty waking up
- Excessive fatigue
- Anxiousness and difficulty relaxing, particularly at night
Here’s how cortisol is meant to function over a 24-hour window:
- Highest within 30-45 minutes of waking
- Promotes alertness in the morning
- Supports energy and focus during the day
- Evening decrease helps with restful sleep
- Lowest between 10:00pm to 4:00am, allowing your body to enter deep sleep–essential for recovery
Cortisol can be tricky. Testing helps you track and manage it. Reach out to your healthcare professional about the various test panels available from Nordic Laboratories.
